The purpose of the project is to better understand the biological mechanisms underlying behavioral lifestyle interventions targeting weight management in relation to prognosis and survival of breast cancer survivors. Specifically, a randomized controlled trial will compare the effects of two 8-week educational interventions: (1) physical activity/ healthy eating and (2) stress-reduction via mindful eating on biomarkers of cancer survivorship in overweight and obese female survivors of pre- and postmenopausal breast cancers, including markers of inflammation, immune function, and cardiovascular risk. Findings from this study may provide translational evidence on the effectiveness of weight management intervention types in reducing the risk of breast cancer co-morbidity and mortality as shown by biomarkers.
