In AY 23-24, a group of UGA faculty interested in carceral education work began meeting as a Faculty Learning Community. Several of us had preexisting relationships with educational programs for incarcerated students, particularly Common Good Atlanta and the Inside Out program. Over the academic year, participants learned about other carceral education programs and initiatives around the state, including guest speakers from GACHEP (Georgia Coalition for Higher Education in Prisons) and updates from FLC members about existing and upcoming carceral education work opportunities.
Our hope is to share information about existing college and corrections organizations and initiatives at UGA, to advocate for expanded prison education involvement at UGA, and to continue developing this space as a hub for prison education knowledge and opportunities.
