He Brings an Enthusiasm Factor

Don’t Listen to the Polls apparently

So we are within one day what some would call “the biggest election of our time” and while many women continue to voice their complaints about Trump, he has been led to think the opposite as he claims that he has “tremendous” support from women and has his family and campaign people insisting that the polls are wrong and that women are voting for Trump. Lara Trump, who is the wife of the candidate’s son Eric, claimed that the support she has seen on the ground coming from women should not be overlooked. “Women are very enthusiastic about voting for Donald. I know the polls suggest otherwise, but I’ll tell you. I’m on the ground. I see it everyday.” While many, including the media, in my opinion will probably write these comments off, I think holds some substantial depth to this particular category. We’ve been hearing over and over and over again about how much women can’t get passed Trump’s comments or hear other politicians such as Elizabeth Warren bash the candidate at Clinton rally’s.

But why aren’t we hearing about the actual support coming from women?

I’d argue that it’s because it doesn’t make the kind of “juicy talk” the media is looking for the day or two before the election. It’s honestly probably the opposite from what they really want to hear. The primary “talk” of the Trump election has been surrounded by his comments made about women, which then brought about a slew of accusers claiming to have been sexually assaulted or verbally mistreated by Trump over the years.

But we get no coverage of the actual women supporters.

It will continue this way

I’m going to continue to argue that the silent majority will continue to be in favor in Trump and that includes women. I firmly believe that the remaining advertisement that is displayed will only showcase “anti-Trump” rhetoric coming from Hilary’s side because it’s the communicative message she’s been deploying ever since those tapes came out that gets people’s emotions all bent out of shape. It’s the one message that she can use to really sink him in, according to her experts.

So why are we still talking about it?

It’s like we’ve discussed in class.  Hillary’s primary audience she’s speaking to with this rhetoric and message is women. It’s been a sought after and bolstered up topic for the past 18 months and will more than likely continue on once we have elected a new President.

But again, what we don’t ever hear about are the women that ARE going to and have voted for Trump because that would then go completely against the message that everyone has been fixated to believe is on the top of the totem poll of campaign discussion.

An Emotion Driven Topic

He’s giving everyone “the feels”

It’s crazy to think that we are only 8 days away from finding out who will become our next President for the next four years. This entire election, for Trump at least, has been sandblasted by the media, especially in terms of how much controversy has surrounded him with women and the things that he has said in the past. I am no political analyst by any means, but my argument at this point in the ball game is that it’s time to move on. It’s time to move on past having to watch Elizabeth Warren comment on his “nasty woman” quote from the last debate. It’s time to move on past having to see every social media outlet post their two cents about what he said in 2005 and what he said at Gettysburg recently in relation to women coming out saying they had once been sexually assaulted by Trump at one point in their life.

Hear me out though

I’m in no way saying that this “women talk” is irrelevant and shouldn’t be brought up in conversation. I’m also in no way saying that his behavior should be condoned or excused. The things he has said and potentially done towards women is indeed disgusting and unacceptable. But like we read in class from the Political Brain politics are so driven by emotions and feelings. I’d be presenting the obvious by saying that this entire election, especially the talk on women, which has been so emotionally driven by the media. But what frustrates me the most is that this seems to be the only topic we keep hearing about. As it’s presented in the Political Brain, so many things within politics, especially elections are driven solely by emotion without us even realizing it. All of the things I’ve seen posted by my friends on Facebook or Twitter are emotionally driven and I wish we, including myself, could realize that more.

So why move on?

When I say “move on” I don’t necessarily say that we need to ignore the woman problem with Trump. I say it more as, let’s just let the women be the deciding factor of who they vote for. Sure, as we’ve discussed in class, this topic is a money maker for journalists and other media outlets, but I’d so prefer us to stop beating the dead horse and solely leave this conversation up to the women because they will be the ultimate deciding factor. Sure, will Hilary continue to grill Trump on this topic until next Tuesday? Absolutely. And I would argue that she has to because she knows that this is one of the “October Surprise” topics that she is trying to use to keep the media talking about that rather than her recently surfaced email problem.

So ladies and gentlemen, let’s let the ladies decide who they are and aren’t going to vote for. It’s really not worth letting our emotions get all driven up over a topic that has been beaten over and over again.

Elizabeth is Not a Fan

The Latest Blow

Look at any news media outlet after today and you’ll probably see something headlined along the lines of “Elizabeth Warren Fires back about ‘nasty women’ comment.” The last debate wrapped up last week and while some might argue that this was Trump’s strongest and most presidential debate performance yet, the media has really nit picked at the fact that he called Hilary a “nasty woman.” At this point in the election season, it seems like the media is grasping at any word(s) coming out of Trump’s mouth pertaining to women and turning it into this grandiose narrative/junkyard journalism-esque rampage. Let me re-iterate as I have before that I don’t in any way condone what Trump has said about women, but I do think it’s important to note how much of an incredible narrative the media has turned this into.

But don’t mind me. Let’s hear about Senator Warren.

Elizabeth is a well-known Massachusetts Senator who has generally been seen as a “thorn in Mrs. Clinton’s side” because of her opposition to Hilary’s agenda and policy. But with the remarks made at the recent Clinton rally in New Hampshire, she has definitely gotten behind the “Women against Trump” train. She was heard making comments such as “I’ve got news for you Donald, women have had it with guys like you and nasty women have really had it with you” referencing the “nasty women” comments he made about Hilary int last debate. From a communication and rhetorical perspective, I can argue with a lot of certainty that the media will be off and running with this “nasty women” remarks made by Elizabeth and turning it into a narrative driven wildfire.

The Morning After Effects

Recent polls are showing Clinton with a 12 point lead, which is the largest she’s had in the campaign trail yet. I think this story with Senator Warren will invigorate and seal the deal for many women out there who still might be on the fence but are afraid to come out fully come out with their support for Clinton. I think you may even start to see some last minute advertisements out their coming from Hilary that’ll help send push Trump over the edge in terms of the women vote. I can absolutely see the media taking this story and running head on with it because it’s the “newest” gossip on the street and people, especially left wing voters are going to eat this mess up off of a silver platter.

Who knows, maybe Clinton will put Warren on her administrative board in the White House if elected? She has certainly helped Clinton in this matter at least.

The Clock is Ticking

This last debate could make or break

As we near election day, Trumps polls with women are still lingering toward the bottom of the voter pile in large part because of the video leaked by the Washing Post. According to a post by CBS, Hilary is leading Trump with the female vote in battleground states, which could very well play a huge roll in the outcome of this election, by a 15% margin. That’s about a 10% increase from the lead Hilary previously held and while many people are going to argue that the women vote may sink Trump in this election, I’d argue that this final debate could really help put a bandage over some wounds that he has cut open over the course of the last month. He may not necessarily change the position on a lot of voters, but I think if he used his rhetoric to really humble himself in this debate and offer up as much support of women as possible it may help people see him in a more Presidential manner instead of a “sexist bigot” like many people view him.

The “Rigged” Allegations Won’t Help Him

Trump has recently come out shooting saying that there has been voter fraud against him and that this election has been “rigged.” While I can certainly see him trying to sway media attention away from the topic of women and into something else, I don’t know that I would put money on this claim because he has dug his grave a little too deep in terms of winning over the hearts of women. Hilary’s people are undoubtedly going to fire right back and make claims like ” he’s doing this out of defense” or because she continues to widen her lead. But all this talk of “rigged” allegations is more than likely not going to help win over women votes.

trump-hillary-tw

At least he’s got Melania’s approval

Sure, Trump doesn’t have a large majority of the women’s vote and he will certainly blame a lot of that on the media cracking down on him.

But at least his wife supports him, right?

It’s hard to say how much his family’s support can go, even if they are claiming that all of this “sexual assault” is a bunch of garbage. It’ll be interesting to see if any of this gets media traction. But at the end of the day, I stick to what I’ve said from the beginning and that is the fact that he needs to use this final debate to come out and try to drown this Women problem with as much humility as he can muster and be as Presidential as Donald J. Trump can possibly be.

Oh Donald…..

The Talk of the Town

By now, unless you are one living in a different universe, we’ve all heard about the leak from the the Washington Post pertaining to Trump and the lewd comments that were made about Women. I couldn’t scroll through my Facebook feed this past Friday without seeing something in regards to that video leak and the feelings and emotions that were brought about, especially from women, on this particular topic. You certainly have to wonder what must be going through Trumps head at this point in the game. We’re a month out from election day and something this extreme could have the potential to sway undecided voters in a direction Trumps personnel don’t want to see stray away. Many Republicans voiced their complaints about these comments, including former Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain who revoked his endorsement of Trump after hearing oft these comments.

Trump’s Response

While Trump did post an apology, a lot of people seemed to be taken back by the underwhelming sense of urgency and care that’s brought about in his apology. His use of the term “it’s just locker room” talk sparked an outrage on social media. But what’s more interesting and intriguing to me is how Trump rallied together a group of apparent women who claimed to have been raped or assaulted by Bill Clinton, Hilary’s husband and former President. While it’s hard to tell if anything will actually come of that rebuttal from Trump, I’d argue it was a a pretty strategic move on his part because it helps shed light on another issue that may not be brought to the forefront at all given the climate that the media is taking towards Trump at this stage in the race. Many people will argue that “oh well Bill isn’t the candidate who is running, so why are we pinning Hillary by association?” While I do see where voters come from with that, I think it’s important that we shed light on how much of a “team” Hilary and Bill have been all these years. Bill has had a large influence on Hilary and she has always “stood by his side” even through all the scandal. Dr. James Dobson, in my opinion, shares great perspective and insight on this particular situation and really helps back up the argument I’m trying to make here.

So what will come of this?

While I in no way condone Trump’s actions and words from the 2005 video (it’s actually very revolting and disgusting to hear from a potential commander in chief), I think it’s important that we examine how much of this issue is going to be strictly driven by the power and appeal to emotion, especially from a media standpoint. We’ve already seen how much the media has blown this topic up. Just look at the debate from last night! Within 5 minutes of the debate, Anderson pulls out the machine gun and fires right at Trump with the tape question and spends the next 25 minutes of the debate questioning him on that. Now don’t get me wrong again, I’m not condoning his actions at all, but it was astonishing to me how much time was spent on this topic in last nights debate. And the moderators certainly were not going to give up on it, especially when he kept trying to steer the question in another direction.

So, what do the voters think now?

A recent poll shows Clinton increasing her lead by 11 points. It’ll be interesting folks.

For the record, I’m just going to leave this article from someone I look up to, Jerry Falwell Jr. who’s the President of Liberty University. He makes a very interesting and what I saw as a thought out opinion towards this. Both Jerry and Dobson throw out some intriguing and what a lot would say, shocking insight on the current state of Trump.

Trump’s Rapport with Women is About to be Nonexistent

How far will he go?

At the rate this campaign keeps going, it’ll be shocking if Trump can win over the hearts and votes of women. As a male outsider looking in, it’s pretty astonishing seeing some of the things that have come out of Trump’s mouth so far pertaining to women. I am no moral compass or ethics administrator by any means, but I’d say it’s becoming a safe bet that the vote count coming from Women in November for the ole Donald may be pretty slim. For example, voters such as Patricia Bennett from Pennsylvania commented on Trump’s comment on Hillary’s stamina from the most recent debate quoting that “Why doesn’t he just say she needs more testosterone…..it’s incredibly distasteful and it doesn’t stop.”  As all the cool kids seem to say these days, Trump literally has “no chill.” He’s a loose cannon, especially on his twitter page:

2015-07-31-1438300953-7810257-trump

But it doesn’t stop there, friends.

Demeaning female ‘Apprentice’ Contestants

We could talk for hours about countless more examples of ways that Trump has dug his own grave pertaining to women. I’d love to talk about the whole Alicia Machado scenario, but let’s leave that for another day. As of today, October 3rd, one of the hot topics coming from the Associated Press is that Donald Trump Demeaned female “Apprentice” Contestants. We all know that Trump was quite the reality TV star for a portion of his career (I’ll shamefully admit my mom and I used to watch that show pretty religiously), but what seems to have gone on behind the curtain and off the record is what news outlets and the media are raging about right now. According to an article published by the Associated Press today, “Trump called for female contestants to wear shorter dresses that also showed more cleavage, according to contestant Gene Folkes. Several cast members said Trump had one female contestant twirl before him so he could ogle her figure.” One woman contestant even stated that “We were in the boardroom one time figuring out who to blame for the task, and he just stopped in the middle and pointed to someone and said, ‘You’d f*** her, wouldn’t you? I’d f*** her. C’mon, wouldn’t you?’…….

Should we overlook it?

Folks I’m in no way trying to say what you should and shouldn’t believe, but those reports above coming from the “Apprentice” might raise your eyebrows a little higher. Even before this report, 27 percent think less of Trump after the first debate took place. I think Trump has himself a big mountain to climb here, but let’s face it, if he keeps tweeting this kind of stuff, it’s gonna be a high climb.
