Ivanka… Donald Trump’s MVC.

Daddy’s Little Girl

Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka has been his most loyal surrogates from the beginning of his Presidential run through the final two weeks before Election Day.  However, her involvement as a surrogate has definitely shifted from the her peak at the Republican National Convention. Some might lead you to believe this change is due to her lack of political experience, and desire to avoid feeling the pressure of being a Candidate’s Family. I’m more of the belief that it is a strategic move for life after the election.

Ivanka is without a doubt his MVC, Most Valuable Child, on the campaign trail. Their hope is that she would be a surrogate that appeal to the Millennial, and women voters.  Her success as a top level Executive in his business would assure women that in a Donald Trump Administration women would be able to have a seat at the table.  Ivanka’s also appealed to working mothers that value the opportunity to be successful in business, and being a mother.

This was fun for a little while

Ivanka made her claim as a Surrogate for her father when she introduced him before he declared his campaign to run for president in the lobby of Trump Tower.  Her poise in the public eye was a relief for many GOP supporters that were unsure of her father’s ability to be taken seriously.  She continued to shine on the campaign trail to eventually earn a spot as the  Keynote speaker on the final day of the Republican National Convention.  As her father’s political strategy to attack anybody that disagrees with him, or accuses him of sexually assaulting them she started to take a step back.  As somebody that was constantly having to explain what her father meant to say about his past action she started to show cracks. At a Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit she opened up during a Q&A session to say,”I may have been naïve going into this but nothing in life prepares you for a parent running for the president of the United States of America nothing,”  She added, “I will tell you that the media has been vicious, and we take it personally.”  Another turning point for Ivanka was in an interview in September with cosmopolitan.com that turned confrontational when pushed on comments her father had made about childcare and maternity leave. They were questioning Donald’s comments from 2004 about pregnancy being an inconvenient thing for business. This obviously contrast Ivanka’s rhetoric from the campaign trail. She criticized the interviewer for having “a lot of negativity” in her questions, and ended the interview.

Time to go

Without a doubt Ivanka is one of Donald’s best surrogates to attract the most important demographics of voters for a victory, Educated Working Women.  She was doing a great job in the beginning. However, Donald’s offensive and basely threat to women over the campaign has started to erode some of her credibility.  I feel that she sees the writing on the wall, and wants to distance herself as to not jeopardize her standing in the business world. One that she has proven to be a success.

  1. I agree, one of the smartest things she could do as a business-woman for her own image sake is to distance herself just enough to not get caught in the wake of the aftermath of this election in a few weeks (while not damaging her image as a “family member” by ditching them all together). I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for her to play damage control for her father’s outlandish comments in his speeches and appearances. She has been the sole link to any sort of rational understanding of the Trump campaign, she seems to be the filter in which all the mess that is the Trump campaign filters through. Even still, it’s hard to filter out the fear appeals and divisiveness in the rhetoric, it’s core to the narcissistic character that is a part of Donald Trump.
