Part I: You will be asked to briefly identify four out of seven terms, titles, or characters from material and class discussion since the last examA complete answer (of four or so sentences) completely identifies the subject and connects that subject to the work where it appears and/or to other works read in our class this semester(5 points each; 20 points)

Literary Terms that might appear on this section of the exam: ottava rima, sonnet, Romantic Irony, Spenserian stanza, the ode, terza rima, direct discourse/indirect discourse/free indirect discourse, the dramatic lyric

Part II: Passage Identification. You will identify three out of five passages. You must spell the author’s name (2 pts) and title (3 pts) correctly to receive full credit. (15 points). You will then answer a few short questions about the passage. (30 points).

Part III: You will be asked to write one essay that addresses the novel PersuasionYou are encouraged to bring in a 4X6 card to assist you in writing this in-class essay. (35 points)

Rules for the 4X6 card: you may have a thesis statement, an outline, and short phrases of supporting textual material.

You may not use the card to assist you in Part I of the exam. If you do so, there will be a whole letter grade deduction.
