On Wednesday, March 30th Rosemary Correiro, MPH student in Health Promotion and Behavior presented findings indicating that HPV vaccination rates have increased significantly since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, particularly among girls and women with government-based health insurance. Heather Padilla of the Workplace Health Group receives two awards for presentation at Society of Behavioral Medicine
Heather Padilla, a doctoral student in the Workplace Health Group, received recognition for her abstract submission titled, “Standing Workstations Increase Occupational Physical Activity in Public Health Workers “. She received the Graduate Student Abstract Award for Outstanding Research in Pain or Palliative Care from the Pain SIG, and the Student Abstract Award from the Student SIG. The full abstract is published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, 2016, Volume 50, Supplement 1, on page S25. Coauthors include Dr. Mark Wilson, Elizabeth Parr, Dr. Jennifer Gay, and Susanne Koch. UGA researchers awarded USDA-NIFA grant to train undergraduates in obesity research
Dr. Jennifer Gay is part of a multi-disciplinary team that will mentor undergraduate students from minority or disadvantaged communities in obesity research, including physical activity and health. Funded by the USDA, the Youth Obesity Undergraduate Research and Extension—Y.O.U.R.E. team will mentor 10 undergraduates each year for three years. PACE Lab is going to Society of Behavioral Medicine’s 2016 Annual Meeting
PACE team member Rosemary Corriero had an abstract for poster presentation accepted. “Association of insurance coverage with HPV vaccination rates pre- and post-Affordable Care Act” will be presented during the Wednesday poster session from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Dr. Jennifer Gay will be talking about, “Weight Management Behaviors among Mexican American Youth: Variation by Growth and Maturation” during the paper session “Diet, Activity and Weight Management in Racial and Ethnic Minorities” on Friday at 12:30pm.

Dr. Jennifer Gay to speak at Conference for Cardiac and Vascular Care
On February 27, 2016 Dr. Jennifer Gay will give a presentation on short bouts of physical activity and glucose control at the 11th Annual Cardiac, Vascular & Stroke Care Conference at Athens Regional Medical Center. Her presentation highlights how episodes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity that are less than 10 minutes in duration may be beneficial for preventing or managing type 2 diabetes.
