Usually it\u2019s a pretty straightforward process, although you will inevitably run across some jerks out there. In this module we\u2019ll strategize about how to select, plan, and execute interviews.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop plans for reporting<\/li>\n<li>Conduct interviews<\/li>\n<li>Double-check facts<\/li>\n<li>The ethics of interviewing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Steps to completion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Background:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2010\/IREPORT\/10\/01\/interview.tips.irpt\/\">CNN guide to interviewing<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cjr.org\/realtalk\/the_art_of_the_interview.php\">CJR art of interviewing<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Take a story from the Don van Natta list or elsewhere and make a list of all the people whose voices appear in the story and what role they play in the writing (e.g., subject, closely involved with subject, local community context, national\/global context). Post a summary of the story and your list in the Module 6 category with the tag \u201cvoices\u201d by. Oct. 3.<\/li>\n<li>Consider your audio interview with your classmate in light of the CNN and Columbia Journalism Review readings. What questions do you wish you had asked? What worked well with your approach and what could you have done better? Write this up in a short blog post with the tag [spelling corrected] \u201cinterview postmortem\u201d by Oct. 3.<\/li>\n<li>Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/article\/The-Accidental-Ethicist\/237954\">&#8220;The Accidental Ethicist&#8221;<\/a> to discuss Thursday, Oct. 6.
