Check Out PACE Lab Research at APHA!
Dr. Jennifer Gay, PACE Lab Director, will present recent findings from her Blue Gym project at the upcoming American Public Health Association Annual Meeting. The results suggest that picking up marine litter and debris is a form of health-enhancing physical activity, not to mention a functional activity, and that being active in outdoor spaces is associated with the intention to engage in litter and debris cleanup. How cool is that?
Also be sure to check out other Health Promotion and Behavior faculty and students presenting.
Jennifer Gay Part of Team Receiving NIH Funding!
Dr. Jennifer Gay, PACE Lab Director, is part of an interdisciplinary team receiving nearly $4.5 million in NIH funding for the project, “Evidence-based intervention to improve walking engagement in El Paso, Texas”. This project will conduct a clustered Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) to determine the effectiveness of an employer-based walking challenge intervention- 50,000 for Life (50K4Life)- in improving brisk walking engagement (at least 7,000 steps/day) among school district employees. Dr. Gay, Dr. Mark Wilson, and Dr. Janani Thapa of UGA will provide guidance on conducting worksite physical activity interventions and oversee the implementation monitoring and economic evaluation for this project. Congratulations!
Five PACE Lab Members Awarded CURO Research Funding!
Abby Huggins, Melat Mekonnen, Bansari Shah, Jasmine Udeshi, and Meredith Wessel have received Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) Research Awards of $1,000 each. The group plans to use these funds to support their mentored research project testing changes in biomarkers in response to acute exercise. Congratulations!
PACE Lab Students Apply Research Skills to New Projects
Two PACE Lab students, Abby Huggins and Jasmine Udeshi, have been selected from over 100 applicants to be a part of a research team at Medical College of Georgia to help develop a database with information about the residency and fellowship match process in America. This database will include statistics about if and where students are matching for residency and fellowship, which allows future physicians to make informed decisions about what programs would be the best fit for them. This information is crucial to medical students, residents, and program directors, yet it is not readily available. Abby and Jasmine are so excited to be involved in this project!
Congratulations Graduates!
Many congratulations to Madison Picklesimer and Rithika Archinapalli on graduating this weekend! Both PACE Lab members plan on attending PA school in the future. Thank you so much for all your contributions to the PACE Lab. Best wishes for future success!
Five PACE Lab Members Present Their Independent Research at CURO!
Congratulations to the PACE Lab members who presented their work at the 2023 Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) Symposium! These five presentations resulted from independent, collaborative research by PACE Lab members. The overarching project examined the impact of caffeine consumption on academics, physical activity, and sleep. These students, along with Rithika Archinapalli (not pictured), conceptualized their study, obtained CURO research awards to fund their science, and saw the project through to presentation.
