I am a third-year journalism major at the University of Georgia slated to graduate in December of 2024. Along with my major, I am pursuing an international affairs minor, sports media certificate and news literacy certificate.
Since job shadowing at a local news station junior year of high school, I have been able to confidently answer the “what do you want to be when you grow up” question. I have loved the idea of becoming a reporter/anchor and am now on the path that will help me achieve that dream.
I currently am a manager for UGA’s capstone called Grady Newsource. As a manager I get to direct audio, control graphics, control package timing and make sure the students have a deadline for when they need to be ready to go live. This role has made my time management skills grow and turned me into a great leader within the newsroom. I am also a current employee at Daktronics, which broadcasts UGA sporting events for ESPN. Being an employee has taught me how to work and set up cameras for broadcast, which is a very valuable skill in today’s media environment.
This past summer, I was a news intern at FOX 5 Atlanta. I had the opportunity to participate in news meetings, pitch stories, go out with reporters, record stand-ups, edit packages, help the producers write and practice anchor.
