Community Reporting
November 6, 2025Fall 2025 — I took my final reporting class with The Oglethorpe Echo, a 152-year-old newspaper in Oglethorpe County, GA. I reported on the health and diversity beat, covering a variety of topics like COVID-19, animal welfare, political activism and an aging population. Here is some of the work I did with The Echo as a reporter, producer, and editor.
Editorial Work
Copy editing — As copy editor, I reviewed my colleagues’ work for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style. I also cut words for clarity, ensuring each story is accessible and engaging for our audience.
AI Lead — The Echo utilized a new AI tool called YESEO via Slack to improve SEO and streamline newsroom efficiency. As AI lead, I used YESEO to suggest headlines, subheadings, tags and follow-up story ideas to my colleagues based on their work.
