The Sunflower Concert Series was held in the Conservatory at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens, Georgia on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023. Its third show of the concert series featured Elf Power, an Athens-based indie rock band, headlined the show.
The opener for the show was MrJordanMrTonks, a guitar duo that featured Tommy Jordan and William Tonks. Jordan, a musician who has performed in the Athens area since 1977, started and coordinated the Sunflower Concert Series at the garden. Due to concerns over the weather, the show was moved from the Flower Garden to the Conservatory.

Classic City Jam 2023 was held at Paloma Park in Athens, Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023. Clear Mountain Entertainment, the company that organized the event, provides a platform for local Athens musicians and connects students with the music industry. The day was met with high temperatures and humidity, accompanied by a heat advisory. Organizers prepared for this by providing misting fans, water coolers, tents and umbrellas.
The event featured various Athens-based bands such as Heffner, Wim Tapley & The Cannons, A.D. Blanco, Recess Party, Cam & His Dam Jam Band, Echolocations and Red Mile Road. Classic City Jam 2023 had an estimated 600 attendees.

The annual Friends of the Garden Flea Market took place at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens, Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023. The event was on hiatus for three years due to the COVID-19 virus, and the event organizer, Beverly Moore Morton, said the attendance was bigger than in previous years. The flea market was divided into two floors – the main floor had houseware, furniture and appliances, while the second floor had books, toys and artwork.
Morton said that this is the last flea market fundraiser due to a lack of new volunteers. She said that they are dependent on students and other people to help with the physical work that comes with running the event.

The annual Back-to-School Giveaway was held at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Volunteers from the Twin Angels Foundation, Prince Hall Mason and O.E.S lined tables with notebooks, clothes, backpacks and other school supplies to giveaway to children for the upcoming school year. During the event, community organizers also took the opportunity to discourage gun violence.
