The Georgia men’s basketball team put on a dominant display against the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday night with a 102-56 win, improving to 7-1 on the season. The win also continued Georgia’s undefeated streak at home this year, moving to 5-0.

Georgia put on an impressive display from the 3-point line on Saturday night, contributing greatly to the win. The Bulldogs shot 14-24 (58.3%) from behind the arc.

Georgia put on a clinic early in the game, hitting four 3-pointers in a row including an “and-one” from Blue Cain which became a four-point play. Tyrin Lawrence, Dakota Leffew and Dylan James scored the other three during that run. This propelled the Bulldogs’ lead of 2 points to 15, leading to an eventual Jacksonville timeout.

“Obviously when you go 14-24 from three you can beat a lot of people. Hopefully, we got a couple more of those in us this season,” said head coach Mike White.

Georgia’s stellar offensive performance featured six different players recording double-digit points. Leffew led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points, including 4-5 from the 3-point line.

“It’s very important. You know, guys just sharing the ball, guys getting open looks, and more guys scoring makes it easier for us as individuals,” Lawrence said about six different players scoring over 10 points.

Lawrence was one of those six players recording 14 points. He shot 2-3 from the 3-point line while picking up two assists and two steals.

Five-star true freshman Asa Newell was another Bulldog that scored in the double-digits.. Newell scored 12 points including an exciting play late in the first half where he stole the ball and then took it to the basket for a big dunk that electrified the fans in Stegeman Coliseum.

The other three players in double-digits were Silas Demary Jr. (14), Somto Cyril (13) and Dylan James (13). Both Cyril and James displayed Georgia’s depth with great productivity off the bench.

The Dolphins had a huge upset at Virginia Tech just 10 days prior to playing Georgia. However, they could not get anything going offensively on Saturday. Robert McCray, the Dolphins’ leading scorer averaging an impressive 17.4 points per game, shot 1-6 from the field and only recorded three points.

Although Jacksonville did not produce enough offensively, they did force 12 turnovers against the Bulldogs, which appears to be one of the key areas of improvement for the Bulldogs according to White.

“We’re still on the turnover conversation for sure. It’s something we will continue to address,” White said.

Georgia now has a big non-conference matchup with Notre Dame in Athens at Stegeman Coliseum on Tuesday. The high-stakes matchup is set to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be streaming on ESPNU.

“You want opportunities to find out more about yourselves, opportunities to learn about strengths and weaknesses, and to develop and grow together through wins or losses,” White said. “Quality opponents, there are a bunch of different reasons they can help you [with that].”
