“We Will Rise:” The Story of the Apalachee High School Shooting

This is a short documentary my capstone class and I produced about the school shooting that took place on Sept. 4 at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, 30 minutes away from our college campus. Through four segments, we have attempted to document the events that took place the day of the shooting, how Barrow County has coped with its immediate aftermath, and the larger implications this tragic incident holds for school security and arms legislation across the country.

I was given the chance to be team lead and producer for this documentary’s first segment, which explores what happened and who was impacted the day of, and participate heavily in its writing and reporting.

How Oconee County Sheriff Candidates Plan to Improve Emergency Services

This is a video story I produced for my journalism capstone class, which was focused on local elections. The video explores the platforms of the two Sheriff’s Office candidates of Oconee County, Georgia, at the time, and what their plans were for improving access to emergency services in the county. The link for the full story, which also consists of a text and infographic component, can be found here.

Welbourne Samuels: Dena’s Seafood

This is an audio slideshow I produced during a two-day workshop for my documentary photojournalism class, where we spent a weekend making in-depth photo stories to document the faces, places and community of Wilkes County, Georgia.

This story is about Dena’s Seafood, a local seafood restaurant, and how Welbourne Samuels, the restaurant owner, sees it foster community in Wilkes.

Elliot Sammons: Club Archery

This is my first photo story and audio slideshow, which I produced as a final project for my introduction to photojournalism course. It follows Elliot Sammons, who was then President of Club Archery at UGA, and his passion for his craft, archery.
