SENATOR TENNENT TO INTRODUCE BILL LIMITING SCREEN TIME FOR CHILDREN
Goal
Introduce and pass legislation to limit children’s (age 0-17) screen time/mobile device (smart phones, laptops, smart watches, etc) usage during the school day, with the intention of encouraging less screen time overall.
Objectives
Drive media coverage of the bill introduction and solicit cosigners of the legislation to help boost momentum.
Timeline for introduction
- Bill Intro: July 1, 2024
- Finalize materials: June 27, 2024
- Finalize bill text: June 20, 2024
Strategy
Press Outreach – A press release will be sent on July 1 to key reporters and to Senate/Committee leadership.
Additional collateral – An infographic/one-pager for internal, external, and media audiences will be produced along with talking points for Staff and the Senator to use when promoting/asked about the bill. Research will also be deployed showing expert and public support for limiting screen time, particularly in learning environments.
Amplification – Social media posts will be developed and deployed on Sen. Tennent’s Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter) accounts. Corresponding graphics will be developed to be added to the Senator’s website. Supportive quotes will be collected from intellectual experts on the benefits of limited screen time to be used on our platforms.
