Letter to the Editor

In response to the New York Times article  No Time Like the Present, Senator Feinstein.

I hold the utmost respect for Senator Feinstein and applaud her many accomplishments to improve her state and her country. However, I agree with this article earnestly. As one of our youngest members of Congress at age 54, something has to give.

As our world enters a new age of greater inclusivity, celebration and authenticity, our Congress is experiencing a growing lack of generational diversity. Standing still, stranded, as the world around us moves forward.

This is not to say the wisdom that comes from years of experience is not incredibly valuable in governance. I am only suggesting we remain aware that 48.7% of the 118th Congress are from the same generation.

As congress people, it is our responsibility to represent our constituents well and ensure all Americans–no matter their age–have a voice. I believe in our nation, and I believe our leaders should only serve for as long as their health allows and for as long as they best represent their electorate.
