Throughout my life, I noticed that I was intensely torn between two passions: psychology and the environment. I knew that I was very fascinated with human behavior, but I also felt a strong responsibility toward doing something to save our Earth. Fortunately, it dawned on me that I didn’t have to choose. This led me to delve into an interdisciplinary approach to pursuing my passions in psychology and allowed me to stumble upon the field that I now consider a major determinant of my career pathway: Environmental Psychology. This field is centered around human interactions with the environment and perfectly combines my interests and allows me to probe at one of my ultimate curiosities: what motivates sustainable behavior?

Using my interests as a guide, I decided to pursue Psychology and coupled it with an Ecology minor and sustainability certificate in order to connect the two seemingly distinct disciplines. During my time at UGA, I have been a research assistant in psychology, as well as pursued my own research through several courses, including a thesis course. I also worked as an interviewer and audio processor, questioning ordinary citizens from various counties in Georgia about their perceptions on solar energy. In terms of extracurricular activities, I am secretary of UGA’s chapter of Psi Chi, an International Psychology Honor Society, and often volunteer at UGArden. Ultimately, my future goal is to attend graduate school and become a research scientist in the field of Environmental Psychology.

Resume link My name is Sabrina Francescangeli and I am a Psychology major with an Ecology Minor and Sustainability Certificate at the University of Georgia.
