I am a sophomore undergraduate student at the University of Georgia who is studying journalism, with ambitions of one day attending Georgia Law School. My studies have allowed me to dive into the practices of research, reporting, and media literacy, further enriching my creative capabilities.
Courses that I have taken during my time at Georgia span from Reporting to Communications Law to Sports Media, all granting me the opportunity to grow a deeper knowledge for the in’s and out’s of the media world. Covering events such as Athens music festivals and press conference meetings have given me a very hands-on approach to understanding the vital role that journalists play in the development of their communities. In the fall semester of 2023, I specifically researched the beat of local government in Athens-Clarke County, where I strengthened interviewing and photography skills alike to tell stories of various current events taking place across the city.
Collaboration alongside fellow colleagues and professors has been crucial in ensuring thorough analysis in my work and has inspired me to challenge myself in the complex aspects of journalism. This motivation has driven me to interview and learn from the likes of Mayor Kelly Girtz and Superior Court Judge Lawton E. Stephens of Athens, Georgia.
Studying as a student at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications encourages me to look ahead to my future, where I plan to participate in internships, as well as broaden my horizons into the fields of public relations and advertising.
