We learned many practical skills in this class, as well, such as how to use Excel. When we had to conduct our own research for this class- which involved posing a novel research question and then collecting raw data and analyzing it in some way, then documenting the results in a research paper- I had the opportunity to use Excel for a practical reason. Here’s a link to my research paper:

We also researched many different case studies throughout this class, but for one particular case study assignment, I had to give an oral presentation about a new, innovative alternative energy product. Here’s the link to the PowerPoint I created:

We analyzed how bias was portrayed in this documentary about cows in regard to global food systems.

Also, I had to showcase two sides of a hot topic through a poster presentation symposium with two other classmates. We decided to discuss the two sides to the argument surrounding GMOs- are genetically modified foods better or worse than organic foods? We weren’t supposed to agree with one side or the other, but rather portray both sides in a non-biased manner.

I learned a lot about organic gardening! I decided to start my own potted garden on the balcony of my apartment. It has basil, rosemary, mint, lemon balm and a few others.

One requirement for this class was volunteering at UGArden. I got on UGArden’s Instagram page when I volunteered! We were picking chickweeds from a cilantro patch.

And last, we had to make our own research poster. I made mine about the effects of beneficial insects and sunflowers.

I discuss how sustainability is a culmination of considering individual puzzle pieces and the bigger picture in a situation. For this class, we had a group project in which I actually did look at a piece of a puzzle while simultaneously looking at the puzzle as a whole (it’s an analysis of the Global Food Security Act from 2016 ):

Sustainability Seminar

Here’s a sustainability event reflection I wrote on a Southeast Student Sustainability Conference I attended when I was an eco-rep my sophomore year. This was an assignment for the sustainability seminar.

This is another reflection writing assignment we had for the seminar. It’s a reflection about the seminar itself, as well as what I’d learned about sustainability throughout my time at UGA.
