Clinton & Hispanic Equality

We all know that Hillary Clinton is all for racial justice and equality. Recently, all we have seen is how Hillary Clinton can continue her narrative of being for the people and how she can increase racial equality. Most of the articles that people read about is how Clinton has targeted her African American audience in order to get their support. But what about the Hispanic population?

There are 27.3 million eligible hispanic voters for the 2016 election. Clinton’s rhetoric must somehow reach these potential voters and gain their support. According to an NBC News article, Hillary gave a speech to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials  or NALEO, on issues that were not restricted to immigration. Speaking to the NALEO is important for Hillary Clinton, because it shows the latino voters that she thinks their elected officials matter.

Education

Hillary Clinton talks about the importance of education for hispanic communities. She uses the audience’s value for education to gain their support. She states how, “every single 4 year old will have access to quality education,” and will be able to participate in Early Head Start, which is a program that allows education for low-income families. Hillary Clinton makes it apparent that education for all member of all communities should receive the same opportunity for education.

Language

The second value Clinton used in her rhetoric is the value of language amongst the Hispanic population. She excite the hispanic audience by talking about how important their language is to their culture. She specific states,

” The more you talk in Spanish, the more those neurons and synapses start to fire and the more likely your child will be prepared to be bilingual.”

This shows Clinton believes that the Spanish language is important to her and is a valued quality.

This particular rhetoric is important, because it shows that politicians do not need to strictly focus on immigration to gain support from the latino community. Hillary Clinton proves this in her rhetoric by talking about the importance of language and education. In turn, continuing her narrative of racial equality.

Head Down Through The Finish Line

In an appearance this past Sunday at a Baptist Church in North Carolina, Clinton spoke amongst a predominately black audience. Clinton was surrounded by five black women who have lost their children to gun violence or altercations with police. Clinton has made it a priority of hers’ to address predominately black audiences throughout the rest of her campaign down the home stretch. In this appearance Sunday, she jokingly said “love thy neighbor as you love thy self” and went on to mention that it can be hard in the background of politics. This was a subliminal shot at Trump, which was very successful at her appearance after you could hear the crowd begin to engage and laugh. Clinton further went on to take shots at Trump during conversation about systematic racism, she said “my opponent has been involved with that and much more.” Lastly, Clinton concludes with “I have stood next to him for four and half hours through all three debates, to just further prove that I have the stamina.”

In this last appearance we see that Clinton is very interested in gaining the black vote, and made it her priority moving forward. Once again, Clinton is using “intend to gain an audience” being the black voters which is a pivotal point in winning this election. I found that Clinton did a fairly good job of putting herself way above Trump at this rally through reading the transcript. Clinton was able to successfully take shots at Trump, through the rhetoric she used she was able to make it subliminal and not to controversial. However my favorite quote is when she stated she has the stamina. Clinton used the “stamina” claim to take another shot at Trump, thus trying to prove through the fact that she was able to stand next to him for hours at a time that she was in good health. Overall thought this was a beneficial outing for Clinton, and only gave her more momentum for the black vote.

Rocky start to a Career

Though it has been brought up many times during this race, Hillary Clinton reiterated a prominent racial issue with Donald Trump’s past as a businessman once again in the 1st presidential debate. As most people know, back in the 1970s when Trump was running housing developments in New York, Donald was sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination because he wouldn’t rent his apartments in one of his developments to African Americans.

“He made sure that the people who worked for him understood that was the policy,” Clinton said Monday night. Him and his father tried to fight the allegations and even tried to counter sue the department on accounts of false statements, a counter sue that topped $100 million. “It was a suit that was directly against them, and it is one that Donald Trump to this day clearly is upset about.” said Michael Kranish of the Washington post, and he is right. Mr. Trump is constantly having to defend himself from this issue, but it is brought up just about every time his “racist” demeanor is talked about. To be fair to Trump, they did end up settling the suit without paying out a dime, but Clinton’s rhetoric that he is a racist perfectly lines up with this story, so why wouldn’t she talk about it more. She is very effective at driving this message into the public’s view of Trump, and it is just another one of her rhetorical tools against trump that we are sure to keep on seeing.

Less Racist Than Thou

Holier than thou, Hillary has pulled back all of the stops.

In Aaron Blake’s Article, Hillary Clinton essentially just called Donald Trump an unrepentant racist he discusses how Hillary Clinton has been playing a slightly different game than she has in the past. She has adopted very similar tactics to her presidential race opponent, Donald Trump.

Clinton has decided to strengthen the division of the candidates in regards to race. She is now acting similar in many ways to Donald Trump by trying to convince the audience that she is with them and that Donald Trump is the enemy, and therefore, evil. She has taken the initiative to invoke a rhetorical enthymeme in the mind of the audience so that they see Donald Trump as being a racist and bigot. This is an extremely important and interesting tactic, because it creates the mentality of us and them in regards to Donald Trump. For example the Clinton campaign released a video, Hillary Clinton: ‘Trump and the Extreme Right Wing’ that creates the enthymeme that Trump must support and approve of the ‘Extreme Right Wing’ which is said to consist of a constituency based around racism.

The us and them mentality is important. It paints the picture for the audience that Trump is immoral and in many respects, evil. This then creates the enthymeme that Hillary Clinton is therefore good and racially just. It is the simple good vs bad argument. Even in its simplicity it is one of the most powerful arguments used in the political sphere. In this case it comes down to a emotional and logical based argument. Logically racism is viewed as bad in our society. If that is the case, and Trump is associated with racism, then he must be bad. If he is bad, and you support him, then that must make you bad. That argument has made huge waves throughout this election cycle for Clinton.

Throughout this whole time she is automatically considered the good character in the situation. This is assumed because of her accusation. The idea is that she couldn’t make the accusation if she was guilty of the same fault as Trump. This lets voters feel comfortable in voting for her because she is not the “evil” candidate under this premise.

The $125 Billion Dollar Plan

Hillary Clinton knew that racial equality would be a huge issue in this year’s election. Even her website has all of her plans for people to see. According to an article by the New York Times, Hillary Clinton gave a speech on how exactly she would allocate money for racial equality.

Follow The Money

In the Article, Hillary Clinton talks about how she has a $125 billion dollar plan to help change racial inequality in minority communities by creating new jobs, reforming education, and re-entering society after incarceration. The plan calls for 20 billion to create new jobs for young people. Also she will create after school programs to end, “school to prison pipeline.” This way parents know that there children are not running around and getting into trouble. Clinton does a great job at exciting her audience’s values of employment and education. Clinton will then allocate $5 billion for re-entry programs so that people could become active members of society. According to the NAACP, nearly 1 million African Americans are incarcerated, and the re-entering programs that Clinton proposed would appeal to her target audience of African Americans. Lastly, Clinton states that another $25 billion dollars will help aid entrepreneurs in lower income areas. If the small businesses around the community can successful, then it could up lift the community as a whole. The rest of the money would go education and other sectors. Clinton understands that these lapses in funding and programs in minority community is a problem, and she says,

“These are not only problems of economic inequality, these are problems of racial inequity, and we need to say that loudly and clearly.”

Clinton understand the concept of speaker-message-audience. She knows which audience she wants to talk to and knows exactly what she is going to say. In this case, Clinton tells her audience how and how much money she is willing to give for racial justice. All of this continues her narrative of racial justice.

FINISH THE DRILL

In the upcoming debate, Clinton will be looking to solidify the nation’s vote. In doing so, Clinton will be focusing hard on locking in the votes of minorities and immigrants who are directly affected by racial injustice. During this debate I expect Clinton to lay out the plan she has to bring about racial equality in all aspects of life in this country, she needs to be very specific and straight to the point to give the American people belief in her and what direction she is going to head upon entering the presidential office. Right now, Clinton has tons of momentum heading into the last debate and needs to keep rolling to solidify her spot as the nation’s top presidential nominee.

There are two pieces of presidential debate that Clinton will be honing in on. They are “stated proposition” being racial injustice, and “intent to gain the attention of an audience” by gaining the attention of all people directly affected by the racial injustices that take place in this country. Clinton has pulled away substantially in the last two debates, as they say “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it”. Clinton needs to continue to hammer down the topics she has been which include racial injustice and much more.

Presidential debate predictions: What to expect from Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

Clinton stated in the last debate that Trump owed an apology to America for the alienation and verbal abuse of minority groups which has divided America which he was apart of. This accusation further separated herself from Trump and has helped her gain momentum with the minority and immigrant vote. I look for her to continue with these tactics to solidify her vote with the people directly affected with racial injustices.

The Mission of Mrs. Clinton

Earlier this year in February, Hillary Clinton revealed another one of her goals if she is elected president of the United States. Speaking to a group of African-Americans in Harlem, New York City, she spoke of finally putting up a fight that will hopefully end racial issues and inequalities in our great nation. She feels that even after 50 years of having the civil rights act in place, race “still plays a significant role in determining who gets ahead in America and who gets left behind.” She plans on passing a $20 Billion plan to create jobs for youth minority and going with a criminal justice reform plan that will be “end-to-end”.Having shown a history of fighting against race inequality  does make her plans seem honest and she had also said that these kind of actions to combat racism has been her “north star” since her early days as an attorney.

I am not sure if I, or the american people, can believe that she will actually follow through with all of her plans for the white house, but I must say I am confident she will do a lot for minorities in our nation if elected. “We have to demonstrate a sustained commitment to building opportunity, creating prosperity and writing wrongs, not just every two or four years, not just when the cameras are on and people are watching but every single day,” she expressed that same day in harlem. When she makes comments like that it’s hard to think that she doesn’t have a heart for the many racial problems millions of Americans face every day.

This Is Not A New Fight For Her

Hillary Clinton has been an advocate for racial justice her whole career. Today, we will focus on her record as a Senator for the state of New York. On her website, you can find her stances on just about every issue there is, including racial justice. In the words of her campaign, this is not a new fight for her.

Secretary Clinton had a huge success with reforming election and voting practices that could potentially favor certain people over others. She still is working to restore voting rights to those that have been incarcerated. She wants to repair the Voter Rights Act and make voting as easy as possible for everyone.

One of her other big points is reforming the criminal justice system. Some of the rhetorical language she has used and still uses with that are things like systematic racism, racial profiling. She makes it clear that she believes that there is a huge bias against people of color. As a senator, she fought against racial profiling; she uses that exact same language in her current campaign, she wants to “end racial profiling by law enforcement”.

She has helped implement numerous programs throughout her career to aid in racial justice, and she is not done yet. Her rhetorical strategy is to keep reminding people of her record and experience with this issue. She has been proven to fight for equality among all people throughout her whole life as a lawyer, first lady, senator, and Secretary of State.

Hillary Clinton is able to give so many specific examples in her campaign about how she has helped close the gap of injustice. Secretary Clinton makes voters think about how ridiculous it is that in 2016, we don’t live in a country that values justice for all people of all races. Rhetorically, she is very effective in making people believe in, fight for, and envision a truly equal country.

Framing a Racially Perfect Picture

While some people get caught with photographs of terrible scandals, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton gets caught with photographs of being racially inclusive and aware.

Secretary Clinton, throughout her campaign, has been adept at reaching out to the afflicted racial minorities of our nation. She has done so through the use of recognition of causes and support of movements. Specifically she has been seen visiting many African American churches. This is a common tactic for the Clinton family. They have had a strong tie in this demographic area for years and years. She goes to these churches, speaks, and is seen as being racially inclusive through her promotion of things such as prison reform and economic development with a focus in helping these communities. In After Black Lives Matter dust-up, Bill and Hillary Clinton shore up support with black voters, an article on The Washington Post website, she is quoted speaking about how she wants to “boost economic development in predominantly African American communities in Baltimore and elsewhere.”

These scenes are used to frame her as a candidate who is racially just and aware. She is striving to be seen as a President who would have those minorities in mind when at the discussion table. For example, on her website, hillaryclinton.com under the Racial Justice section of the Issues page, she is seen in a photograph surrounded by a racially diverse group.

This is an interesting rhetorical tactic. In this picture you see Hillary surrounding herself with family members of people who have suffered from acts of racial injustice. She depicts herself as stern but compassionate in this moment. It is in effort to seem presidential but also aware and caring of those groups affected by racial injustice. She is trying to associate herself with being in a position of power and fighting against racial injustice in our nation.

Hillary Clinton wants to be seen with groups fighting against racial injustice, because she wants to be seen as a fighter against racial injustice. This is key factor in securing the votes supplied by the groups affected by racial injustice.

Ad Clinton for Racial Change

“Stand”

Pennsylvania  has been a major discussion in this year’s 2016 election, because Pennsylvania could ultimately decide who becomes president. In April, Hillary Clinton launched an ad called “Stand,” to promote herself in Philadelphia. She continues her narrative against racial injustice through this ad.

In the ad, Hillary Clinton is shown stating several names of African Americans that have been killed by police. Then she is shown talking to African Americans and being with them, depicting herself like a common person amongst her voters. The ad also states,

“She fought in the senate to end racial profiling and discriminatory sentencing.”

This highlights the fact that she has fought for racial justice. Lastly, the ad talks about how she stands with the president. Obama has constantly spoke about the racial injustice in America, and that quote appeals to the people who liked Obama’s stance on racial issues. By stating that she stands with him (Obama), the voters of Pennsylvania can think that she has the same stances as Barrack Obama.

Overall, I thought this was a good ad ran by Hillary Clinton and it helped continue Hillary’s narrative for racial justice. Clinton did a great job at reaching out to her target audience, which are members of the African American community in Philadelphia. Then the ad appeals to the audience’s value of family by stating, “Makes their mother’s fight for justice her own.” This was one of the best parts in the ad, because it made Hillary look like she truly cares about the injustice these families faced. The ad finishes by saying Hillary Clinton has “always stood with us.” That phrase is powerful in the eyes of the audience, because it makes the audience feel that she has always fought against racial injustice.

Plus, using Morgan Freeman to narrate the ad also helps.
