Accountability Check

In the past debate, Clinton was able to show the nation that Trump needs to be held accountable for his actions. Clinton spoke about Trump bashing a federal judge who was born in Indiana whose parents were “Mexican” therefore he could not be trusted. This is another example of Clinton making sure that the nation does not see this behavior as normal and acceptable.

In another instance, Clinton spoke about how Trump never apologized to the current POTUS for calling him a non-american because he was under the impression that Obama was not born in the U.S. Clinton deemed that a racist lie in the last debate, and that Trump needed to apologize to not only the POTUS but the country of America as well. Clinton finished these remarks by stating that Trump once again needed to be held accountable for his racist remarks and actions. Clinton was able to separate herself in this past debate when it comes to a racial standpoint because of these statements against Trump.

Clinton used “confrontation” one of the six elements of debating to bring public attention and focus on to his actions, and she was able to publicly condemn him for his racial remarks. While America was watching this most definitely helped her ethos as a defender and as the candidate that cares and will fight for racial justice in America. Personally, I found her remarks to be very beneficial to her campaign in my eyes because of the fact that Trump did not try to defend himself on the accusations because he realized that his actions were being watched and he was being held accountable and the whole nation now sees him as a different person than they may have before this second debate.

A Safer Nation

I must admit, I did not start agreeing with many of Clinton’s policies until my party blew most of them out of proportion under Trumps campaign. I believe that a large portion of American voters would agree with me, and that in the past few weeks, we have seen what a Trump presidency would really look like.  Clinton is not at the top of my list of presidential candidates I would vote for, but she is our best realistic option. Like I said earlier, I do agree with her on some issues such as Environmental, Education and most importantly Civil Liberties and I learned this during the first presidential debate.

We need a leader who will fight against systemic racism in our nation, because if we do not we will only polarize our citizens even more to pick a side which will divide us to a point I don’t want to witness. As president, Clinton has stated that she will lead this fight. “We’re going to enforce the law, we’re going to change policing practices, we’re going to change incarceration practices, but we’re also going to emphasize education, jobs, and housing.” Clinton stated during the Feb. 11th Primary debate. She reiterates this in the first general election debate as well, showing her interest in not only helping the convicted, but the police force as well, mainly to reduce the amount of officer racial bias in our communities. Overall, I would say her plan is much more thought out than Trump’s “Law and Order” style of government.

Race and The First Debate

trump-and-clinton

It’s no secret that race relations are at an all time low in our country. As a result of this, the topic of racial justice (or injustice) is a huge topic during the current presidential race. Both candidates have made their stances pretty evident on this topic.

During the first debate, the moderator, Lester Holt, asked how the candidates would heal this divide. Secretary Clinton pointed out that race still determines so much including how people are treated in the criminal justice system. She has been very careful and tactful in her wording of this topic. She uses phrases such as criminal justice reform, police training, racial profiling, and gun control. She puts a lot of the responsibility of the injustices on the government and police.

Secretary Clinton does a great job of lifting up African-Americans, and brings up the point of how ridiculous it is that they are not always treated justly. She said in the debate that “it’s just a fact that if you’re a young African-American man and you do the same thing as a young white man, you are more likely to be arrested, charged, convicted, and incarcerated. So we’ve got to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system.” She strategically gets people fired up about racial justice, and, therefore is very effective when it comes to this topic.

The other tactic Secretary Clinton uses is pointing out Mr. Trump’s failure to acknowledge these issues. She criticized his praises of “stop-and-frisk” as well as his focus on saying how violent and awful a lot of African-American communities are. She brought up many instances of Mr. Trump acting as a racist towards different groups of people. This in turn puts emphasis on how much better she could heal the injustices due to race in our country.

Dividing Equality

In this Presidential election, Hillary Clinton has been a major advocate of social change and racial justice. As you listen to her speeches, read about events she has attended, and scan through her policy points on her website, you notice a focus of attention on racial justice.

In many peoples minds this issue is non-existent and nothing other than just an idea for attention. On the other hand, a large proportion of United States citizens see this as a terrifying reality of the corruption and fault in our justice system and society.

As the saying goes, “the powerful write the history books”, and that is exactly what she is trying to do. Through her use of public acknowledgement, she is helping to rhetorically frame the concept of racial injustice in the United States. This framing is a powerful tactic used by many politicians. This topic is a key concept in swaying many young voters. The topic of racial injustice is something that is an increasingly more common conversational piece amongst said group. She uses this political prowess and recognition that she has gained, to give light and validity to this topic. She reaches her audience by replicating statements of division from the past, and concepts that pull from speeches of the civil rights era. In doing this, she basically confirms that there truly is a monster under our bed and it’s name is racial injustice. The voters who already believed in racial injustice are confirmed and thus strengthened in there stance, and those who were unsure now feel compelled to fight this injustice.

Secretary Clinton masterfully uses rhetorical framing tactics to validate the concept of racial injustice. She comments on and makes many statements pertaining to a broken system that is unfair and unjust. She talks of creating a greater unity amongst the citizens of the United States and makes wavering voters feel wrong for not voting in support of her unifying policy points. In acknowledging the division of the people of the United States in regards to racial justice, she is coercing the conversation of creating equality throughout our society.

Super-wrong

It’s no secret that most U.S. Politicians have a history of changing their stance on issues as they progress throughout their career. It’s also is no surprise that Hillary Clinton is a part of this group of political butterflies, as she too has shed her cocoon to a life of new values. Unfortunately for her, in today’s technology driven world anyone can see how she has shifted her views over time just by going on the internet, and one of the issues they might find with her current rhetoric is her stance on race has changed quite a bit.

In today’s campaign she is effectively pushes a narrative that we need to fight against racism and racial injustice. There is no arguing against that, and she has made it clear that she won’t tolerate “Racists” like Donald Trump is painted to be after his stance against illegal immigrants. The only issue with calling him a racist, is that she is in turn calling herself a hypocrite.

Back in 1996 while her husband was the current president, Hillary Clinton supported and lobbied for a method of enforcement best described as “Tough on Crime”, which today is widely known by both parties to have been a terrible set of bills to have passed. This bill along with others supported and passed by the Clintons (3 Strikes Bill, $30 Billion Crime Bill, $16 Billion for Prisons and Police Expansion) are what have heavily pulled back the black and minority communities in their attempt to escape poverty and crime. The logic behind her support of these bills? She viewed and expressed  African American youth associated with gangs as “Super-Predators” who need to be “Brought to Heel“. This harsh statement against American citizens not only paints a bad image of the black community, but also isn’t helping the problem of the crime only enforcing it.

Now, I think it is a fair argument to say that Mr. Trump’s statements were perhaps too strong against Mexicans, but what Hillary said back in 1996 as First Lady is probably much more offensive and racist.

Clinton’s Charge on Change

Racial inequality has been a huge issue in America in recent years, and the latest event that caused a bigger divide was the killing of Keith Scott. Racial injustice has been a major topic in this year’s election, and it has been one of Hillary Clinton’s major platform. Hillary Clinton spoke in Charlotte, North Carolina on the issues of race that has hit their city, and her ideas for change that are tangible.

Tangible Ideas

According to an article from Bloomberg Politics, Hillary Clinton delivered her speech at Little Rock Zion Church, which was been at the center of the recent riots. She was smart in picking this location, because the location has a lot of historical background among the African American community. At the speech, she appeals for change for both African American lives and the lives of the officers who serve the community. She states,

“Of course we need safe neighborhoods, no one is against that. Of course we need communities that are free from the epidemic of gun violence. Of course we need that,” she said. “But we also need justice and dignity and equality. And we can have both. This is not an either or question for America. I want us to commit ourselves to this common vision.”

She is speaking the community as a whole in a way that they can both be united. The two major things Hillary has stated that needs to be changed are gun control. The other major issue that needs to be change is police training. She advocates more effective training for the police officers. Both of which are practical goals.

Hillary Clinton’s plan for racial equality has a call to action. Things that can be done and ideas that are not ambiguous like, “Law and Order” which is the plan that Republican nominee Donald Trump thinks will be effective. When it comes to racial justice, Hillary Clinton definitely is more prepared than her counter candidate.

Defender of The People

The Legend of Hillary

Hillary Clinton, who we all know is the Democratic Presidential Nominee has a very strong stance on racial injustice. Clinton has track record with politics beginning in 1993 where she served as the First Lady of the United States to President Bill Clinton. Clinton finished up as First Lady in 2001, and went on to serve as a U.S. Senator representing New York from 2001-2009. At the end of her stint as a senator she announced she would run for President in the 2008 election. After conceding the nomination she was appointed to Secretary of State by President Obama where she held that position until becoming the first woman to represent a major political party as the Presidential Nominee.

A track record comes from all the time spent. When it comes to Racial Justice, she has been fighting for Racial Justice her entire career! Clinton started fighting against the injustice as a young lawyer when she investigated the segregation of schools in Alabama. Clinton has done it all, so what does this mean? I believe it gives her the upper hand in the voters eyes. Clinton has not only the ethos but the pathos as well. Clinton’s pathos on Racial Justice is going to attract many voters because of the fact she has fought and promises to continue to fight for the people! The voters who these racial injustices directly affect will have an emotional connection to Clinton, thus will be the first to vote for someone who will do everything they can to make a change. Clinton is at a huge advantage because of the ethos and pathos she has established in her career as a political figure.
