Christopher M. Patterson is a lecturer with University of Georgia’s College of Education. In this role, Patterson works with a team of American Sign Language experts providing all aspects of American Sign Language. This includes teaching, development of online courses, and advocacy. Before joining University of Georgia in 2011, Patterson worked as a certified educator for four years at Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. He was also employed by Troy University for two years. Patterson served on a diverse range of organizations, including Georgia Association of the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf, and College of Education Faculty Senate. Patterson’s varied background in education, American Sign Language, and advocacy work provided the perfect foundation for his position as a lecturer. Patterson has been awarded these awards: Georgia Deaf Person of the Year (2009), Georgia Deaf Community Leader (2013), and two Online Fellowship grants to develop American Sign Language online courses. These courses are to be offered at University of Georgia upon development. Patterson has contributed his time and multiple capabilities, which range from co-presentation of poster session on research of interest to providing online training on Audism and among others.
