About Me – Angela C.

Published on Author angelacanales

Hello MIST 5720! My name is Angela Canales and I am a third year majoring in Management Information Systems and am planning on completing an emphasis in Business Analytics to broaden my skillset. This summer, I am interning at Protiviti in Atlanta as a technology consultant. I am very excited to learn more about the consulting world and how to use technology to solve problems within businesses. I am even more excited to use the skills and knowledge I have gained through the classes I have taken in Terry and am currently taking now. After graduation, I hope to remain in technology consulting and possibly get into data analytics. I am also hoping to learn more about investments and other passive income opportunities in the future.

I am originally from Marietta, GA which is in the metro Atlanta area. It’s about an hour and a half from Athens, so I enjoy going back to visit my family a lot. Even though I’m away from home, I really enjoy UGA and what Athens has to offer. Hanging out with friends, eating out at new places, and indulging in the night life are some of my favorite things to do here. I have also joined great organizations such as Delta Sigma Pi, where I’ve made so many great friends. I am planning to become more involved with Women in Tech this semester to meet more people in Terry.

DSP Cabin Trip, 2022

I grew up in a large immigrant family from Honduras. I enjoy and embrace my culture a lot, from the food, music, dances, and customs. I am fluent in Spanish which has helped me a lot in jobs and has allowed me to communicate with a wider range of people. My culture has made me who I am to this day and I am proud of it. I also love building up and supporting my community, and hope to one day be able encourage girls like me to do great things in business, tech, and education in general. Because I grew up in a culturally distinctive household, I have grown to appreciate so many cultures around the world. I have a passion for exploring them through trying out new foods, learning more about them through friends, and traveling. My favorite cuisines are Indian, Honduran, Colombian, Korean, and Italian. Some countries I’ve traveled to include Germany, Honduras, Austria, Czech Republic and Switzerland, and I will be studying abroad for a Maymester in South Korea this summer! I hope to one day be able to travel through every continent and see all the wonders and cultures the world has to offer.

Beach trip I took last year

As far as fun facts about me, I enjoy singing, learning to play guitar, and fashion! I love all kinds of music and used to want to become a famous singer when I was a little kid. I always wanted to learn how to play the electric guitar as well, and am currently working on that goal today. I have learned how to play simple songs on the ukelele as well, and would like to continue getting better at it. For fashion, I just love putting outfits together and accessorizing (they pull the whole look together). I enjoy thrifting and finding unique pieces to add to my closet.

As far as this class goes, I am excited to explore the structure of it and see how it will prepare me for my post-grad career. I am also excited to participate in plenty of discussions about new and emerging technologies and how they will affect us in the workplace and everyday life. I’m looking forward to hearing from various amazing speakers as well.

  1. Hello Angela! It’s nice to meet you through your blog! Definitely have to agree with your taste in cuisine, but have you ever tried Ethiopian food? It’s delicious. I’m also trying to learn how to play the electric guitar, but my YouTube lessons haven’t gotten me far.

  2. Hi Angela! It’s really cool that you’re going to be doing a Maymester in South Korea! Also, how has your experience been with DSP? Was there something in particular that motivated you to join, and how has it helped you professionally?

  3. Hi Angela! It’s awesome to see that you are looking to learn more about the different cultures around the world. I am trying to learn how to play the guitar as well, but I am going to take it more serious once I get more used to my classes for this semester.
