Agazi Meijer

Hello!! My name is Agazi Meijer, and I am a fourth-year MIS major here at UGA. I am graduating in the spring, and hope to take my talents to the next level and try to get my Master of Science in Business Analytics. I’m very excited to take this class with everyone, due to the different nature of the class it is compared to any other class I’ve taken here at UGA. This class will feature many guest speakers from companies all over the nation. This will be a great opportunity for me to not only gain valuable knowledge but to also make connections that could potentially turn into a job offer. I’m still looking for a job after college since my main focus right now is getting my Master’s degree, so this is a great time to capitalise on the opportunity that seems to come every Thursday at 4:00 pm now.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in a small neighbourhood called Candler Park. I love playing the best sport in the world, soccer, building computers, and travelling the world. I’m half Ethiopian and half Dutch, and due to this, I would always travel to the Netherlands every summer as a kid to see my other family members. This is where my love of travelling started because I was very fortunate to see many places in the world as a kid.

When I graduated high school, I was lucky enough to go on a one-month-long backpacking trip with my best friends throughout Europe. We went to many countries, including Spain, France, and the Netherlands. This really brought my love of travelling to the extreme, because it was the first time I was able to really explore wherever I wanted. My favourite place had to be Rome because I was able to see the ancient Roman city remains. Additionally, I was able to see how the Colosseum works when operating water games, and how they were able to flood the entire stadium by connecting aqueducts from underground.

This really opened my eyes up to the world, and how much I kept wanting to explore it. I made a decision that no matter what job I get in the future, I want to be able to either travel or be able to communicate/work together with different people from all over the world. This made my decision to come here to UGA so much easier because I knew how good UGA was, with all its study-aboard programs and its International Business degree. That’s also another reason why I decided to major in MIS. I was fascinated by how information is used by people all over the world, and how we are so easily connected to one another. This made me want to learn how to manage/develop information systems for people all over the world so that they can easily communicate and build amazing things for this developing digital world.

More about me, I also enjoy giving back to the environment, which is why I was a part of the Trees Atlanta company while in high school. I would go around Atlanta with my Tree team (that’s what we called ourselves) and we would water and take care of all trees and plant life in Atlanta. It was gruelling work, which included watering, mulching and planting many different types of plants and trees, but it was worth it. If you go onto the Beltline in Atlanta, you can just see how many trees were planted, and just overall how nice it looks now.

A few more facts about me are:

I’m an Atlanta Falcons fan even though it hurts. I love going on walks, especially in the rain. I love to cook so much that I have so many cooking books it’s a problem. My favourite food is pasta, any type but it has to have vodka sauce. Soccer is my favourite sport and you can catch me playing pick-up games at the IM field on the weekend. I even play in a 7-a-side league over the summer in Atlanta, where we won the championship!

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog!

GO DAWGS

  1. Hi Agazi! It’s nice to meet you through your blog! I completely agree with you that this class will help with networking and getting our names out there. It’s so cool that you’re half Ethiopian and Dutch, my family has always told me that my last name originates from the Netherlands (even though I am hispanic) so I’ve always wanted to visit! What’s a place you recommend visiting there?

Also, I LOVE vodka pasta sauce. It’s the best, at least in my opinion.

    • Thanks!! If I was to recommend any place to go to in the Netherlands it definitely has to be the Keukenhof, or also known as the Garden of Europe. It’s one of the largest flower gardens in the world. Probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to in my life. Also, your family is definitely right because I have a few friends in the Netherlands with the same last name, which is kinda crazy.

I be adding soo much cheese to the vodka sauce nowadays, its too good.

      • That’s crazy!! I had no idea that my last name was that common, but I’m glad to hear it 🙂 I hope I get to visit either of those places one day!

As for the vodka sauce–that’s okay, I do the same thing!!

  2. Hey Agazi! What’s your favorite soccer team? Apart from Atlanta United, assuming you’re a fan of them alongside the Falcons.

    • Favorite soccer team has to be Arsenal! And yes, I am a fan of Atlanta United. My friends and I share season tickets, so I go to games pretty often

  3. Hey Agazi. It’s very nice to meet you and read your blog! It’s cool to see you were a part of a tree company and giving back to your community in that way. Although I’m an avid pasta lover, I would rather go for a cajun sauce or marinara sauce. I look forward to being in class with you!

    • I do enjoy cajun and marinara sauce but something about vodka sauce hits the spot for me. You gotta spice it right ya know? Looking forward to being in class with you too.

  4. Hi Agazi! I enjoyed learning about your passion for traveling. I am definitely looking to visit the Netherlands sometime in the near future!

  5. Hey Agazi. I think we’ve had a couple classes together but this is the first time I’ve actually gotten to know you! I saw you play soccer and I do as well. We should play some time!

  6. Hey Agazi! I enjoyed learning about you and all the cool stuff you have been able to do! Going on a backpacking trip with your best friends in high school is no small feat! Those are memories that will last a lifetime! Looking forward to this semester.

  7. Hey Agazi! This is such a cool post! It looks like you love traveling! When and where are you traveling next!? We’ve also had a couple classes together, so i’m glad we’re in this one together!
