Aly Murdhani

Hello everyone, my name is Aly Murdhani. I am currently a senior Management Information Systems major, with this being my final semester. I am excited to graduate and join NCR’s professional services consulting practice in Atlanta! I was born and raised in Lawrenceville, GA which you drive through traveling between Athens and Atlanta on 316. I started my undergrad at Georgia State University, but transferred to UGA in 2021. The name of this class caught my attention from the get-go, and after attending Professor Kane’s first class, I am extremely excited to learn about the current and future innovations as they continue to progress. I am also intrigued by the format of this course as it seems to be very different than anything I have taken in the past.

Over this past summer I interned at a civil engineering firm, doing IT support. I had a great time learning about the different technologies that civil engineers use every day, especially in their traffic control departments where they use various forms of AI to test how different traffic patterns and changes affect traffic, without having to go out and make a physical change. These types of innovation are so important to creating safer societies around us, along with being more efficient to both the engineer and the everyday individual as well.

My interests include sports, video games, and cars. I watch a lot of sports, through the Braves are my favorite as I grew up playing baseball. I enjoy going to games during the summer with my girlfriend and friends, as it is a great way to spend a night. I recently got into soccer as well, and have started watching the English Premier League. My favorite team is the Tottenham Hotspurs, who play in London. I also enjoy playing different games on my computer as well. I like to play Call of duty with my friends whenever I can, but mainly like to play story driven games by myself, such as the Assassin’s Creed line. I also really want to travel more, but have not got to do much of it growing up, but look forward to be able to once I graduate. My favorite place I have visited is New York City. I have wanted to go back since the say I got back over 4 years ago. I really want to travel to Greece and Egypt as well, as it would be incredible to see such old landmarks from civilizations of the past.

My expectation for this class is to help me gain a better understanding of so many of the popular terms we hear today. These include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and many more. I do know a bit about each, but I have no idea about how these things work. I feel like it is important to understand how they work, to get a grasp for all the possible future implications of these technologies. For example, I always thought of Blockchain to be what makes cryptocurrency work, and was so surprised to see that Blockchain is the basis of so many new platforms including data storage. As data security continues to grow as an area of concern for so many individuals and large corporations across the world, Blockchain can create the future of what we know data security as.

I look forward to listening to the different guest speakers to get real world examples of different technologies are used every day. I am especially excited to learn what new innovations are on the horizon, as these could very well be what we are working with when we graduate.
