Hello everyone! My name is Erica Degue and I am a 4th year Management Information Systems from McDonough, Georgia. I am extremely excited for this upcoming year especially with this class. This is my first time taking a class like this and although it is different from anything I have ever taken, this is one of the classes that I am looking forward to the most. Growing up, I have always had an interest in technology and how it’s constantly changing and I feel like this class will fuel that growing interest.

My family consists of five people – my mom, my dad, and two sisters. I am the middle child out of all of us.  I was born in Atlanta Georgia, but moved to McDonough around ten years old, but we are Togolese, which is a small country in West Africa near Ghana and Benin. My dad and mom immigrated here in 2000 right before I was born and my older sister came later in 2008. My younger sister and I were born here, but we are dual citizens. We try to go back every other year so that we can still maintain close connection with our family. Togo is not the only country that I have traveled to though. I have visited France, Germany, Switzerland, Ghana, Mexico and plan on visiting the Dominican Republic and London this year. I am hoping to be able to do a lot more traveling once I graduate.

As of now, my hobbies include listening to podcasts, working out, listening to music, and photography. My favorite artists at the moment are Frank Ocean, SZA, Future, Ravyn Lenae, and Ya Levis, but this usually changes weekly.  I currently have SOS on repeat! I used to take pictures frequently, but have not recently. Hopefully, I am able to take more pictures this year.

Some podcasts that I have been obsessed with lately are ‘Unexplained’, ‘Going West’, and ‘More Than That with Gia Peppers’.  I am also currently reading ‘Good For A Girl: A Woman Running in a Man’s World’ by Lauren Fleshman and have been enjoying it a lot so far. One of my biggest goals was to be on social media a lot less and replace the time that I would usually spend on there doing more productive things like listening to podcasts or reading, so if you have any suggestions for either definitely drop them below!

My expectations:

I expect that this class will be filled with a lot of interesting conversations that are relevant to what is currently going on in the world. I anticipate that I will be hearing a lot of different point of views which is also going to be very cool. I am also excited to hear from all of the different speakers that Professor Kane has planned for the class and getting to learn more about them and their journey to success. I expect to learn a lot in a very untraditional way which I am thrilled about.

All in all, I am extremely excited for this semester and all of the mysteries that it holds. I am looking forward to taking this class with you all this term and learning about all that there is to Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship 🙂

  1. Hi Erica! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog! I’m also a dual citizen and absolutely adore SZA’s new album, I’m obsessed with the song Snooze. You should definitely visit the Dominican Republic, I am from there and 100% recommend it! I’m excited to get to work with you in this class 🙂

  2. Hey Erica! I’m from McDonough too, what school did you go to? Also, I’m West African, seems like we have a lot in common.

  3. Hello Erica! It’s nice to meet you. I plan on traveling to Dominican Republic and London this year as well. I am a big future fan and love all the songs of him on the new metro album.

  4. Hey Erica! I find it very interesting that you listen to podcasts. I also listen to some. Podcasts weren’t as popular as they are now even 2 years ago. I always find myself either listening to sports podcasts or mental health podcasts. What are your go-to podcasts?
