Hi everyone! My name is Jhanvi Desai and I am a senior Management Information Systems major here at University of Georgia! Starting my last semester of college is bittersweet, but I’m looking forward to having a great semester. Some of the things that I will be going over in this post are some facts about me, my hobbies, professional experiences, and pictures that I have taken in the past few years.

Some background about me:

I was born in San Francisco, California and I moved to Alpharetta, Georgia when I was young, so I have spent a lot of my time in Georgia. I still visit California often, especially since I have family there and I feel like each city in California is something very different than the other ones. My favorite place to go to in California besides San Francisco would be San Diego! If any of you ever have the chance to go to San Francisco, I recommend visiting Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, and Chinatown. Also, there are so many really good food options in San Francisco that are great to try like Vietnamese food, sushi, Mediterranean food, and definitely clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl.

My hobbies:

My favorite hobby is painting, and I am always interested in trying to learn a new form of art. I’ve tried a lot of different art forms like sculpting, drawing, pottery, crochet, and graphic design. I started learning how to paint using oil paints, which is different than starting off using acrylic paints, and recently I’ve been using acrylics even more since starting college. Most of the time, I like painting something scenic like a place that I have visited. These are some of my favorite art projects:

Another hobby of mine is traveling and taking pictures of the places that I visit. My favorite trip that I’ve been on was when I went across the west coast to the east coast of Canada. I visited Alberta, Canada and went to Banff National Park. This trip was really important to me because I ended up visiting the first glacier that I’ve been on. Additionally I’ve visited many US states including Alaska and Hawaii. These are some of my favorite pictures that I took in Denali National Park, Alaska. The fox was an animal that I didn’t expect to see on the tour. When the bus was driving by, we noticed that there was some type of animal running down the hill and we waited for a little while. Then a fox family came down the hill, and there were two baby foxes with the fox in the picture.

Finally, one of my hobbies when I’m back home is gardening in the summer.

Professional Experience

After my sophmore year, I started my first internship at UPS as an Information Systems Management intern where I worked primarily with data and create visualizations to display the data. Then, I transitioned into a co-op at UPS for my junior year where I worked on front-end development and IT operations. Starting May 2022, I have been working with UPS Capital as a co-op and have been learning working with various forms of development. I hope to work in IT development or data analytics after graduation.

Conclusion:

I’ve learned a lot through all my classes at UGA, but the MIS classes that I have taken so far have all especially helped me understand the type of work that I want to do professionally, as well as technical and business skills. I’m looking forward to having discussions on many different topics in this course, as well as learning from all of the guest speakers that will be attending this class.

  1. Hi Jhanvi! it was really nice getting to know a little more about you from your posts. Your travel pictures are really cool especially the one of the moose. I heard moose are EXTREMELY big in person, so I am surprised that you were able to get that close.

    • Hi Erica! Yes, moose are really big. The type of tour that I went on was one where the bus would take you through the park, so we actually happened to cross the moose from the picture close to about 5 minutes into the tour. Thanks for the reply!

  2. Hello Jhanvi! You are 100% right about the last semester of school being bittersweet. It will be interesting to see where everyone goes after graduation in May. Also, your artwork looks great! Traveling is a great form on inspiration and it shows in your work. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities to visit as well and I can confirm that clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl never misses.

  3. Hi Jhanvi! I am in the same boat going to my last semester as well, but hopefully this class will be a good experience to end it off. One of my best friends visited Banff and I could not believe the pictures he sent me were real. I hope to travel there some day!

  4. Hi Jhanvi! It was nice to read about your passion for painting. I agree that San Francisco is a great spot to visit, and I will definitely try your food recommendations when I go back!
