Hi MIST 5720! My name is Mary Kaupp, and I am a third-year here at UGA. Like most of you guys, I am studying Management Information Systems. I am graduating this spring and then hopefully participating in the Master of Accountancy program at UGA in the fall. On a professional note, I am currently a virtual tax intern for an accounting firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, I will be on the Advisory track (not Tax track) when I complete the MAcc Program. This summer, I will be an intern for PwC in Atlanta on their Deals-Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services (CMAAS) team. This team falls under their bracket of consulting. Although I plan on getting my CPA and staying in the realm of Accounting, I am excited to learn through this class how I can combine my skills of MIS and innovation with my Accounting knowledge.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yes, I like cheese, I hate the cold, and I am a Packers, Brewers, and Bucks fan. My decision to come to UGA was both easy and hard since I toured nearly 10 schools all across the country. I never even applied to a school in Wisconsin since I knew I needed to live somewhere warmer. Once I came to tour UGA and attended a football game my senior year of high school, my decision to study at UGA was a no-brainer.
Since starting at UGA in the fall of 2020, I have continued to find new things to love about this school every semester. Some of my highlights over the past three years have included meeting my best friends on my hall freshman year, joining a sorority and having my Big and Little both be from Wisconsin, becoming a Terry Ambassador, and winning two National Championships (and getting to go to the Peach Bowl Game this season!!).

On a more personal note, I am very passionate about traveling. This past summer, I studied abroad for six weeks in Innsbruck, Austria. I took MGMT 3000 and MARK 3000 abroad, which is helping me graduate early. I was also able to travel on the weekends to five different countries. One of my favorite weekend trips was to Lisbon, Portugal. We went to the Pena Palace, got to try their famous Pastel de nata, visited the farthest western point in Europe, and hiked to the most beautiful beach I had ever seen. I am currently planning a trip to Barcelona to visit my high school friends who are studying abroad (please let me know if you have any recommendations).

While studying abroad, I began long distance running for the first time since high school cross country. My renewed passion for running led to me completing my first ever half-marathon this past October in Athens. It went super well, and I hope to run it again next year.

I also really love music. Since coming down south for school, I have fallen in love with Country music. I am calling 2023 my year of concerts since it is only January 13th and I have already bought tickets to see Mt. Joy, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Noah Kahan, and Chase Rice in concert.
Here are a few more facts about me…
My favorite TV show is still The Office. My favorite day of the week is Sunday. I really enjoy cooking, and I love cooking dinner for my friends. One of my favorite things to cook is Pork Sausage and Roasted Pepper Pasta. One of my favorite foods to eat is BBQ Chicken Pizza. I am a frequent visitor of Winghouse on Prince Ave (if you haven’t been to it yet, I highly recommend eating there). I work part-time as an MIS tutor for athletes at UGA. Lastly, my favorite study spot on campus is any 4th-floor study room in MLC.
I hope you learned more about me after reading this blog post, and I look forward to getting to know you all throughout the semester!
Great opening post! I’d love to hear more about your experience as a non-Georgia student coming to UGA. Great to have you in the class!
Great to meet you Mary! From all the countries you went in Europe, which one would you recommend for someone to go to with food and scenery being the deciding factor?
I’d recommend Florence, Italy! The city is beautiful and the food was some of the best I tried in Europe.
Nice to meet you, Mary! I’m so jealous that you got the chance to study abroad. I was supposed to go to Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, and Australia for a study abroad in 2021 but it was canceled due to Covid :/. I did get the chance to go to Europe for 2 weeks this summer and it was incredible. Florence was amazing, I completely agree with your comment above. I went to Barcelona for the last 3 days of my trip and we rented a car and drove to the beach to spend the day there. We also did a paella cooking class where we went to the local market with a chef and bought all of the ingredients fresh. It was incredible. Also, the club scene is insane in Barcelona but you have to dress up or they won’t let you in (we found that out the hard way).
Hi Mary Taylor! Nice to meet you too. I’m glad you were still able to travel even though your study abroad was canceled. Thank you for the recommendations!
Nice to meet you, Mary! You’re going to love those concerts. I have spent many of my paychecks on concerts as well and you will never regret those. You will have to let me know how Zach Bryan is though, I have yet to make it out to his.
I saw him last summer and he was amazing! He sounded exactly like he does on his recordings.
Oh my gosh that is so cool that you are a tutor for student athletes! SO curious with your experience.
Hey Mary! Your trip abroad looked awesome in the picture of the mountains. I am sorry to hear that you are a packers fan.
Hey Mary! I think I sat behind you at the Peach Bowl. I have absolutely no idea if it was you. I’m planning a trip to Barcelona as well! The city is beautiful
