Hey MIST 5720, My name is Michael Idaewor and I am a third year student here at the University of Georgia. My major is Management Information Systems and I’m currently considering an emphasis in Information Security. I will be graduating from UGA in the Spring of 2024. I plan to start my career in the field of management consulting with Boston Consulting Group this summer in Houston, Texas. I am excited to learn more about the industry and acquire connections and networks that will jumpstart my future career. I’m still in between getting an MBA, I’ve been weighing the pros and the cons for some time now but still unsure as to whether this is the right time. I love the MIS program at the University of Georgia and cannot wait to see the value that MIST 5720 adds to my experience.
I was born and raised in Mcdonough, Georgia but moved over to Hampton when I was 13 years old which is only about 15 minutes away. I have 4 siblings, three sisters whom all went to the University of Georgia and a younger brother who defied the status quo and went to Georgia Tech. I am from Nigeria, but actually haven’t been to the country yet. My family is making plans to go on Christmas this year.
I came to UGA a good few times before I ended up applying during my senior year of high school. I always had an interest in business with my dad being a tech consultant and entrepreneur since I was in diapers. He’s the one who taught me about the endless possibilities of business especially during these times with novel industries being created every day such as Uber and Airbnb which were created with little to none capital investment. Therefore I took the time to research what each Terry major had to offer at the University of Georgia and MIS is the one that most aligned with my interests.
I had an eventful summer filled with interning and traveling. I attended a few business programs around the country where I made friends from all over and was able to network with executives at notable companies such as Google and Microsoft. During the summer, I went to San Francisco, North Carolina, Chicago, Dallas, and Miami. Nothing beats flying for free while gaining skymiles at the same time. Along with this, I was also an advisory intern at a national accounting firm called DHG now known as FORVIS. The position was insightful as I was able to shadow and participate in projects in departments such as Wealth Management and Capital Advisory. While I was in Florida, I was able to speak on a young professionals panel which was organized in order to help companies understand what type of life Gen Z students want after graduation. This delves into how many vacation hours we would like, the option of working at home or coming into the office, and my particular topic which was how upper management can directly connect to their younger new hires.
I’m a huge fitness fanatic! My favorites right now are boxing and running as I am getting training for the Spartan race which is a 5k with around 15-20 obstacles. I grew up playing soccer but gravitated to basketball and cross country around middle and high school. I’m also using it as a way to get ready for spring break. My friends and I are going to Cancun, Mexico.so we’re working out together to ensure that we get in the best shape possible. We have a month and a half left so let’s see how this goes.
I love being involved on campus, most of my commitments in fact are in Terry. I am a Terry Ambassador and the professional development chair for the Black Business Student Association. As a Terry Ambassador, I give tours to prospective students and hopefully help them decide on UGA. We also host companies coming to talk to students for potential internship and job opportunities. When it comes to my professional development position, my main focus is to help sharpen the credentials of younger students and inform them on valuable programs that will prepare them for corporate America or whichever avenue they take after graduation.
Fashion is another topic I can talk about for hours on end. I would say my fascination for clothes came around when I was a freshman and I was exposed to various styles through fashion shows etc… I see fashion as a way to express yourself. I can’t speak for others but clothes are the first thing I notice about a person and I make a subconscious assumption about the type of person they are. Although fashion is just a pastime of mine, I would love to walk in New York Fashion week one day.
My Expectations
I expect this class to give me more insight on what the technology in the future may look like through research and our assignments. I also want to augment my knowledge in the area of entrepreneurship and even network with the guest speakers so that I can learn about the ups and downs of a startup venture. I’m excited for the semester!

Hey Micheal! Glad to know there is another person in class that is interested in fashion! I’m curious about which designers and fashion houses you look forward to seeing in Fashion Week programs. I really enjoyed seeing pieces from Virgil Abloh’s collections. Hopefully, one day you will get your dream of walking in New York Fashion Week. All I ask for is a ticket when the time comes.
Hey Michael, I see you’re from Henry County. I’m from Clayton County which is 20 minutes away from you. I find it very interesting how UGA has so many Georgia natives and specifically from the Metro Atlanta area. We should also catch up on fashion since I also have a huge fascination for clothing and shoes.
Hey Michael! It’s pretty cool to see someone who also loves Afrobeats, traveling, and fashion! Who is your favorite artist? It seems that we might have a lot in common! Can’t wait for this semester.
