Nick Vetrano – About Me

Published on Author nickvetrano

Hey everyone, my name is Nick Vetrano. This is my first time blogging so I suspect this may be all over the place. So I will apologize in advance. I am a fourth year MIS major from a small town in the North Georgia mountains. I have enjoyed my four years here at UGA and am excited to see where my life will go. I currently don’t have any specific career plan after graduation, however would love to take a break and go out west. I’m excited to take this class because it seems to be a super creative and fun way to approach learning. Which will be refreshing after four years of “normal” classes.

Family

One of the most important aspects of my life is family. I come from a super closely knit family of seven. I have a brother and three sisters as well as my parents. With me being the youngest sibling, I was the last to go to college and so I had several years at my parents house without any of my siblings. As a result I would say I’m the favorite and am super close to my Mom. My parents are from New York and moved here after my brother was born. All of my extended family is still in New York so my immediate family is super close. From an early age my family has been the most important aspect of my life. As we’ve all grown and moved onto careers, spouses, and kids our family has grown and introduced new faces. I am excited to see how we all grow up and hopefully stay just as close.

Nature

As a result of my proximity to the mountains and a seemingly secluded town I would consider myself a nature lover at heart. There wasn’t much to do for fun where I am from, however there are hundreds of hiking trails, so hiking and camping has become one of my go to pastimes. This is where my love of nature comes from. I love being in the wilderness and feeling grounded to something much larger than myself. I have gone on multiple backpacking trips and would consider camping one of my favorite things to do. A goal of mine is to complete the Appalachian Trail in one go. One of my favorite adventures was road tripping out west and visiting several national parks. It was one of my fondest memories in nature because it was the first time I had seen west coast nature, which is vastly different from the east coast. I plan on going out west more and I would love for my next experience to be Yellowstone and Glacier National park.

Interests

Another super important interest in my life is music. I enjoy all the arts, especially film, but my favorite is music. I am constantly listening to music and love sharing it with other people. I feel as if music is the greatest connector of people and can be a super easy way to see others perspectives and viewpoints. I would say my music taste is super varied and can usually find songs I like in any genre, however my taste ebb and flow with how I am feeling. One of my current favorite songs is “Time to Move On” by Tom Petty. As I mentioned earlier I also love movies and shows. I would love recommendations if you have any. Some of my favorite movies are Slumdog Millionaire, Where the Wild Things Are, and When Harry Met Sally. The whole film industry is super interesting to me and would have definitely been what career path I wouldve chose if not for MIS.

  1. Hi Nick! It’s nice that you are so close with your family, despite being the youngest. I also enjoy hiking and getting out in nature. I hope you can one day find a career in music or the film industry, so you can be more involved in what you like!

  2. Hi Joseph, I think your goal to complete the Appalachian trail in one go is remarkable! I hope you get the opportunity soon to make that happen. I also am a big Tom Petty fan and Time to Move On is very fitting as us seniors are on our way out. Looking forward to getting to know you in class this semester.

  3. Hi Nick, its so interesting that you like exploring nature! I really want to go visit the national parks in the West Coast, I’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone park.
