About me

Hello everyone! My name is Shehzad Ur Rashid, and I am a third-year junior studying MIS. I am excited to learn everything coming up this semester and hope to use the knowledge I gain in this class for my future endeavors.

Family

My family consists of my dad, mom, and older sister. I was born in Atlanta, GA but have lived in Kennesaw my entire life. Both of my parents were born in Bangladesh. My dad grew up in Pakistan for 12 years of his life and 7 years in Bangladesh due to the Bangladesh liberation war. This was because my grandfather was a General in the Bangladesh army. My dad came to America as a student and eventually graduated with a finance degree from Georgia State University. My mom and my uncle both immigrated to America in 1996. I travel to Bangladesh once in a while and the last time I traveled there I ended up getting COVID and being stuck there for 10 days. I plan to travel to India this year to visit where my mom’s dad went to college because his story is a source of motivation to me due to the things he did and how generous he was to others. My older sister was diagnosed with autism when I was only three months old, and it was hard on me and my parents. My parents did everything for me and I want to eventually pay them back for all the sacrifices they made.  When I was younger, I used to wish that I had an older sister to teach me how to drive a car or just teach me about life in general. As I got older, I learned to appreciate my older sister and will eventually end up being her caretaker. I hope to donate to autism research and raise awareness for mental health because it’s a topic many people in my community don’t talk about. I hope to one day become successful so I can give back to the people in Bangladesh, and be able to give generously to charities around the world. I want to be able to help others have the opportunities I had growing up because I know that many don’t get the same opportunities as others.

Hobbies

My hobbies include working out, playing basketball, and listening to music. My favorite artists right now are Future, Lil Baby, Drake, and Bad Bunny. My favorite sports to watch are basketball and football. My favorite player in the NBA is Lebron and I want to be able to do what he did for Akron and do something similar for the kids in Bangladesh. My favorite player in the NFL is Tom Brady and he is probably going to end up retiring. I got a chance to watch him play in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago.

I love traveling and having a good time with friends. I plan on traveling to the Dominican Republic and London this year as well as India and Bangladesh towards the end of the year. I am a foodie and love foods from different types of cultures. I like my food spicy, but I like mild or sweet food as well. I have recently gotten into Netflix shows and currently, my favorite shows to watch are Outer Banks, All American, and The Circle.

College Life

Ever since I was little, I grew up rooting for UGA and wanting to go there. I even met AJ Green at the airport when I was in 7th grade. My older cousin graduated from UGA in 2005 and is currently working for LinkedIn in Chicago and previously at Google. In high school, I took engineering classes and computer science classes and liked certain aspects but was left wondering what my major should be in college. After doing research, I chose to do MIS as it’s a combination of everything and I love how the degree mixes technology with Business. I am still in the process of finding an internship for the summer, but I hope to land a technology or management consulting role after graduation. I eventually plan to get an MBA one day and start my own company and run multiple businesses later down the line. Recently, I have looked into buying some properties for real estate but want to take my time first and build up work experience and build up some money as  I eventually want to have multiple streams of income. I am interested in Fintech and AI and love how technology is evolving as the years go by. I plan on learning valuable things in this class that will help me become more creative and open-minded to new things.

Fun Facts

My name means “son of the king” or “prince” in Persian. My mom told me that my ancestors came from Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq so I do have some Persian in me.

I recently got into cooking and hope to learn all the secrets from my mom and others. I enjoy doing it which is something that I never thought would happen.
