Hi everyone! I can’t believe this is already the final blog post. I have truly enjoyed this class, and I’m glad that this is the class that I took for my MIS elective. Not only has it taught me so much about new technologies and future career paths, it has changed the way that I will analyze things in the future. I realized the extent to which certain ways of thinking and interpreting can be very influential. This was especially important for me during all of the class discussions that we had on topics that can be difficult to have a right or wrong judgement on. An example of this for me would be the amount of involvement for AI in creative projects, such as art and music. For me personally, I thought that this was something that AI shouldn’t be involved in mainly because of how special everyone’s unique interpretations are, and I didn’t know if AI has a place in that. I started to see it from the other side through blog posts that I’ve read this semester. I saw great posts about AI being used for music, bringing backs pictures that were damaged, and even cooking! I’ve learned so many amazing uses of AI from the blog posts of this semester.

Speaker Takeaways:

We had so many amazing guest speakers come to our class, and I will definitely remember the lessons that I learned from those meetings throughout my career. I wanted to highlight some of the themes that I noticed the most in the guest speaker meetings. The first one would be to continue to have the mindset of growth and wanting to learn throughout your life. A few of the guest speakers that came to class talked about how they didn’t necessarily plan on being entrepreneurs, but they ended up thinking about an idea that would help them in their daily lives. They were determined to make their ideas successful, and they continued to learn and develop many more skills to be successful and good leaders. Next, it was inspiring to hear all of the stories about how the speakers were able to start their businesses based on what they enjoy, and how that was one of the best ways you can be invested in your businesses. I learned this especially from Mark Mahoney, who talked about his experiences and how it lead him to working on creating Jackrabbit. Also, the guest speakers had lessons working for startups, corporations, venture capital firms, and consulting firms, all while including the highlights of them, which gave a lot of perspective. Last, the guest speakers continued to share a major emphasis on networking and making sure that it is prioritized throughout all levels of your career. Learning about how tech and the medical field typically interact and the legal components of that with my guest speakers Tim Seigler and Kaylee Ewing was a valuable experience for me this semester.

Additionally, it was great to understand different industries more from the guest speakers and in class discussions. I knew the basics of venture capitalism and angel investing before starting the class, but hearing about it from both Jerry Doyle and Greg Gretsch taught me so much more about the thought process that goes into investing in new technologies and determining what ideas have the potential to be successful. From the class discussions, AI was one of the topics that we talked about the most and as previously mentioned, this class has been a great way for all of us to learn about many different applications of how AI can be used. Also, the lecture about Blockchain was extremely informative.

Conclusion

This was one of my favorite classes that I have taken, and I’m so glad that I took it in my last semester. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone throughout this course! I hope that everyone has a great rest of the semester, and I can’t wait to see what we all accomplish in the future. Signing off for now.

  1. Hi Jhanvi! This is also one of my favorite classes I have taken and it was fun getting to know everyone in this class. Your blog posts about animal research and AI were some of my favorites this semester. Best of luck in the future!

  2. Hey! It was a great class! I’m glad too that we got this experience. I think the speakers were one of the best parts of this class and being able to hear their advice from triumphs and failures was awesome!

  3. What an awesome class Jhanvi! Can’t wait to look back on our speakers and posts in the years to come to see how little or much was applicable. Let’s stay active on the tweets!

  4. Excellent summary of the class, Jhanvi! One of the things I will carry with me months after this class is the takeaways from the guest speakers. Since most of us are set to head off into the world after college, it will be nice to have something to remind ourselves of some advice we got in college.

  5. I’m glad I let you override into this class! Great to have you to be a part of it!

  6. Great final post Jhanvi! I really enjoyed the guest speakers as well and will take their knowledge with after I graduate. This class was especially important with the rise in AI and chatgpt during this semester.

  7. Hi Jhanvi, I really enjoyed reading your summary of the class, and I also appreciated the blogs you shared. Initially, I was a bit reluctant about writing them since I typically dislike writing. However, I discovered that writing about these subjects was effortless because I was genuinely fascinated by them.

  8. This is one of my favorite classes and I am glad that I chose this as my MIS elective as well. Looking back on it, this class has opened up my eyes to new things and I do see the future differently now. I never knew the extent of AI, but am now much more intrigued in learning more just because of this class. I loved how speakers spoke on their knowledge and taught us things like angel investing because I had no idea what this even was prior to this class.

  9. Hi Jhanvi, this was a great reflection of the class. I really liked how you added your biggest takeaways for the majority of our guest speakers and the class as a whole. I enjoyed reading your blog posts throughout the semester!
