Spencer Myers – About Me

Published on Author spencermyers

Hello MIST 5720! My name is Spencer Myers, and I am a Senior majoring in Management Information Systems. I live in Alpharetta, Georgia, and enjoy staying active, whether I am going on a hike or playing sports. Back home, I have three puppies that are full of energy. Taking care of them can be a lot to handle at times, but they are very much worth the trouble. I have not brought my dogs to Athens yet, but I am looking to do so before I graduate! The youngest of the bunch, Scout, is a beagle and my family adopted him at the Atlanta Humane Society. Scout loves to run in the woods during the wintertime in his puffy jacket!

Why I chose to attend UGA…

When deciding on a college to attend, UGA was always my first choice. I wanted to stay in-state to save money and be closer to my family. Also, my older brother, Alex, was already attending UGA and talked about his semester highlights when he came home for winter and summer break when I was in high school. After being accepted into UGA and spending a few days in Athens with my brother exploring the campus, I started counting down the days until my first day on campus as an official student.

My Time at UGA

Since coming to UGA, I have been very pleased with my college experience. Due to the fantastic MIS program and an elite football team year after year, I couldn’t picture myself attending another university. My favorite memory at UGA is when we won the National Championship against Alabama last year because we were considered the underdogs and it was the first time UGA won in over 40 years!

My Passion for Traveling

Outside of school, I love to spend my time traveling across the world. Last year, I spent time in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami. Also, I traveled outside of the US to Switzerland and the Bahamas. My family has traveled to many different countries, but our second home is Nassau, Bahamas. We spend about 2-3 weeks in Nassau each year and have made many Bahamian friends over the years!

Plans After College

After I graduate this spring, I will continue working as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategist for Test Equipment Corporation in Alpharetta, GA. I gained valuable SEO experience in high school from owning an online store, which provided an aftermarket platform for buyers and sellers in the premium sneakers market.

More fun facts about me…

Here are some fun facts about me:

  • In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball and tennis with my friends.
  • My favorite spot on campus is Ramsey Student Center. I enjoy working out here after a long day of classes.
  • One of my favorite restaurants is the Sun Dial in Atlanta.
  • My favorite sports team is the Los Angeles Lakers, but my favorite basketball player to watch is Luka Doncic.
  • I really enjoy attending live sporting events, mainly NBA games, UGA football games, and NFL games.
  • Currently, I am trying to learn how to play the piano and guitar.
  • I enjoy trying out new restaurants back home in Alpharetta and in Athens (if you have any recommendations, please let me know!)

My Class Expectations

For my class expectations, I am looking forward to meeting everyone and learning as much as possible about how the new digital innovations will affect entrepreneurship as we know it! More specifically, I expect to learn a substantial amount about blockchain and crypto as these are two areas I am not very familiar with. This class setup is very different from any other class I have taken at UGA, and I am really looking forward to seeing how much I can learn from everyone in class and the guest speakers.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post, and I can’t wait to meet everyone in class!

  1. Hi Spencer! It was nice to read about some of your hobbies and how you adopted Scout from the Atlanta humane society. I would recommend trying the restaurant Ceviche in downtown Alpharetta if you get the chance.

  2. Hi Spencer! Great to hear a little bit about you. It is awesome that you are learning to play guitar and piano, I have always wanted to learn those myself. It is also fascinating to hear about your travel and how your family spends time together in Nassau. Looking forward to a great class together!
