Sarah Walls Portfolio

I’ve never made a portfolio before, and I am not particularly involved in anything journalism-related or have published anything of substance (aside from a few blog posts for a local company), so my portfolio is a bit barren. This is also a work-in-progress, rough-draft version, so I’m not done yet, but here’s the link:

  1. Hi Sarah, your portfolio seems to be off to a great start! I love the site layout that you chose, it’s the same one that I have for mine. Your bio on the homepage is really well written, and I think your stories on your blog posts are going to be enjoyable for future employers and anyone else who visits your site to read. I would work on adding some of your past experience and projects that relate to your resume or journalism experience. If you can find a good balance between the obligated and not obligated parts of this site, I think you will be able to create something you are really proud of!

  2. I loved your layout. It’s very artistic, and I think it fits your career goal of being an author. I wish you had a bit more content, but we just started this class so I’m sure it’ll grow more. I’m really excited to see how you’ll add a spin of creativity to journalism, which is considered to be more straightforward/cut-and-dry.

  3. I like your About page. You wrote a great narrative that gives me more than just a glance at who you are – you reveal subtleties that are lost in briefer descriptions. I did notice, however, that you have two About pages, and when I clicked on the second one, it came up with the message “Oops! That page can’t be found.” You may want to delete that. The same thing happened when I clicked on your Contact page, but that’s definitely one you’ll need to fill out, not delete!

I liked your blog; looks like you’ve written only one so far. You’re off to a good start!

One thing I would like to see is more about you. Perhaps you could create multiple pages, each centered on activities you like to do. You mentioned breathing under water on your About page; that makes me think you’re a snorkeler and/or SCUBA diver. May we see more about that, including a written description and photographs? You also mentioned writing. Could we see a page with examples?

As I mentioned, you’re off to a good start; you definitely have room to grow, though. Good work.
