Constructing the Enemy: Analyzing Representations of National and Transnational Identity in East and West German War Films from the 1960s

CURO Research I, Fall 2020

I wrote this paper for my end-of-semester assignment for a research position I held, wherein I translated German primary documents pertaining to film and film distribution in East Germany into English. I chose this as my independent research topic because I was really interested in seeing the different transnational identities of East and West Germany, respectively, through their representation of WWII in period war films. This required a pretty substantial about of work in film analysis and historical contextualization, but I had a really great time writing this paper in order to get credit for my work as a translator.
