Legacy Media

I remember back when I was younger I would use VHS tapes to watch movies and tv shows. I remember always watching The Teletubbies and Barnie. I specifically remember when my brother would watch his Thomas the Train and The Wiggles, VHS tapes. I believe my family still has all the VHS tapes but we don’t ever use them anymore because they are so obsolete now a days. I even think that DVD’s will eventually become obsolete because of all the things, like Hulu, Netflix, Youtube and many other things that have movies and shows to watch. I have Netflix and that is all I ever watch and I rarely even watch regular tv anymore.

Another thing that has become obsolete is the use of CD’s. I remember having a stereo when I was younger and I would always play the Hannah Montana CD, or the High School Musical CD. Even now, in the newer model of cars they don’t even have a place for you to play a CD. They all have bluetooth or a place for an auxiliary cord to use your phone to play music. There are so many apps like, Spotify,  and iTunes where you can create your own playlist of your favorite music and you don’t even have to buy the CD’s and then burn all your favorite songs on one CD. I remember my dad used to do that and my mom did it one time, just so that they had all their favorite songs on one CD.

When I was younger I had a Nintendo DS and PSP. I played those devices all the time. I don’t remember the last time I’ve seen someone playing on one of those devices. Now everything is played on XBOX, or the PS4. My family has a Wii but I couldn’t tell you the last time we used that because we now have a PS4. It’s crazy how all the devices I used to use, I don’t ever use them anymore and they are just sitting around my house taking up space.

It’s amazing how over time the media I used has changed from using VHS to Netflix, from CD’s to iTunes, from Nintendo DS to PS4. Media is always changing and it will continue to change.

Blog #2

Going into this assignment, I was thinking this is going to be very difficult. I was asking my roommate, “How do you even start a letter?” The only letters I’ve ever written to my knowledge that I can remember would be thank you notes 2 months ago for graduation gifts. I have no idea how many thank you notes I wrote, but it was a good many and all I could think of then was it only gets worse, there’s going to be a lot more when it comes time for me to get married. My hand was aching after all those thank you notes. But when I actually started writing this letter it wasn’t bad at all. I wrote to my God-father who lives in Alpharetta and I don’t really see him on a regular basis. I just started rambling about my college experience and what all I’m becoming involved with and I just thanked him for everything he’s done for me. And that I absolutely love it here in Athens! It was so much easier for me write down what all is going on with me in Athens than telling someone. You can write so much more and it helps you remember everything by writing it down. Writing that letter was a little bit strange because I’ve never written a letter before. It’s so much easier to just pick up a phone and ask somebody how their day was. But honestly I think it is so much more meaningful to a person if you write them a handwritten letter rather than, shooting them a text or email. I think it shows that you actually care and that you actually mean what you are saying. I enjoyed getting this opportunity to write a handwritten letter.

Introduction & Media Tetrad-First Blog Assignment (due August 21st at 9:00pm)

Hello everyone! My name is Chandler Biles. I am a first year student here at the University of Georgia. I’m from Jackson, Georgia which is half way between Macon, Georgia and Atlanta, Georgia. I plan on becoming a nurse at some point in my life, but my major at this moment is Human Development and Family Sciences with an emphasis on Child Life. A random interesting fact about me is that I had a tumor in my knee a few years ago and got it removed, don’t worry it was benign. Another interesting fact, just for fun, would be that I graduated with a class of 61 students.

Netflix:

  1. Enhances: Allows quick easy access to movies and television shows for all types of viewers.
  2. Reverse Into: If Netflix is taken to the extreme, it can be used as someone’s distraction, obsession and possibly make them become socially inactive.
  3. Retrieves: When using Netflix, you can access old movies and television shows that everyone used to love to watch.
  4. Obsolesces: Using Netflix, eliminates people using other instruments for movies and television shows such as, DVD players, and VHS tapes that people used to use to access movies and television shows.
