Legacy media was very prevalent in my life, and I remember it fondly as a child growing up. My family loves movies, and as a child I remember having a large collection of VHS tapes containing all of the movies I could ever ask for. Although VHS is basically obsolete, we still have an old tv upstairs in our house that contains a VHS player and all of our old tapes. I don’t think we have used the tv in years, making it weird to remember the time when that was all that we watched. My life changed when portable DVD players were invented, and I brought mine a long with me on every car ride, and on every trip with all of my favorite DVDs. Now, the portable DVD player has been replaced with laptops, and DVDs have been replaced with Netflix. Social media changes so fast that sometimes it’s hard to even remember a time when I didn’t possess an iPhone, or when I didn’t have Netflix to watch movies or tv shows on. It is crazy to think about how much can change in fifteen years, and makes me wonder if our current social medias will turn into legacy media in the next fifteen.

Blog 2: Letters
When reading this assignment, I struggled to decide which family member or friend I wanted to write to. I ultimately decided to write a letter to my older brother Nick, who goes to Auburn. My brother and I are very close, and text or snapchat each other almost every day. This made writing a letter to him very difficult because I am just not used to sitting down and writing my thoughts on paper. It was difficult to determine what exactly I wanted to write to him, and I struggled to find the right wording. I finally just had to start writing and realize that I could say whatever I wanted to say, and that nothing was going to be “wrong”. Ultimately, letter writing was a positive experience for me. I am excited for my brother to receive my letter because I feel a letter is far more personal and sentimental than a text. I am encouraged now to eventually write letters to all of my family members and friends because they are a thoughtful keepsake that can be saved and cherished forever.

Tetrad: Facebook
Enhances: Facebook allows people to share pictures or articles that relate to their current lives. People are also able to view what is going on in their friends lives, providing a way to constantly stay connected.
Retrieves: It allows people to keep up with family members or friends that may live far away.
Reverses Into: When everyone you know is on Facebook, it creates pressure to constantly be uploading pictures that make you appear fun or interesting to your following online. People live less in the moment and are only worried about taking a good picture to later post online.
Obsolesces: Because you can see what your friends are up to online, Facebook eliminates the need to pick up the phone to ask what is going on in their lives.
